Subject  :  Update on the 4x Game for OS/2 and eCS

For some reason I can not access the old thread about this game, so I decided to create this new one to let people know about some recent progress.

There is a skeleton of a web site created for the 4x (Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate) game that I am working on. There is not much content at the site right now but hopefully over the christmas holidays I will have a chance to fill it in quite a bit.

The web site can be found at:

Looks good so far. One question I have about multiplayer, is it to rely on a server that players connect to or do you have to know to whom you are connecting and connect ip to ip or maybe either one?

I had trouble viewing the thread.

The game sounds exciting (even the name sounds exciting). Will it be an online game? Will it be one that can be played off line? I really like the name; Guardian Wolfs.

Initially the multiplayer game is going to be a Play-By-E-Mail (PBEM) game which means that you will not need to connect to a server or to another player to play the game. You will receive your turn file, do what you want to do, then submit your turn file to the player hosting the game (sent by e-mail). They will not be able to access your turn file but they will be able to generate the next turn and send you your new turn file.

In the future, once the game is functioning relatively smoothly, we will look into setting it up so that players can connect to each other or to centralized servers. Once we are at the point that players can connect to each other or to centralized servers we will be able to make it an option to remove the turn based form of the game and switch to a psuedo-real time form of the game where players will be able to interact with each other while smoothly playing the game (this is a long way off at this time).

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be adding more content to the web-pages.

No major progress has been made this last month on the game design although many programming decisions have been made.

Greetings one and all!

Just realized that I have not posted the address of the new web-page for the developing game in these forums. The web-page can be found at:
http://members.shaw.ca/guardian_wolves/

The game description manual is coming along quite well, and is well over one hundred pages now.

Coding of the game has started with the Universe and SolarSystem classes. The next sections to be worked on include the Race design class and the Ship class.

The web-page will be updated in the next couple of weeks to indicate the progress that has been made.

Good day to all of you!

I just wanted to let all of those interested know that the web-page for Guardian Wolves has been updated and is moving! The new location is http://homepage.usask.ca/tjl128/

The old website will remain active for about one month and then will disappear so please update any links to the Guardian Wolves website that you might have.

Have a great day.

Shadallark
