I use Audiocdcreator-CDrecord/2 to burn CD:s and it has always filled its purpose. For half a year ago I was testing the overburn parameter and something seemed to happen to my CDburner. From that time it always takes three tries to burn a CD. On the two first tries the CD ejects after some spinning around with message "error on burning"(something like that). On the third try the burning always succeed. When using Windows there is also problems, I can't burn at all. Is there anyone who can explain this peculiarity? I'm not superstitious, but why does it work the third try??

I havn't run into anything like this myself on a CD burner, but a possible suggestion: Have you checked the manufacturer's site for your CD burner to see if there are any firmware updates for your burner? I've run into situations on DVD burners where it would not burn on certain brands of blank DVD's without the latest firmware (this was on a Lite-On DVD burner)

Just a thought.

I don't think it has anything to do with Cdrecord types, I have used the same ones for a long time. This problem appeared after that overburn "session". I have checked for firmware at Liteon, in fact it is a Liteon, but a Slimtype Combo LSC 24082K JKQ1 in an acer laptop. As I don't find exactly the right one I don't dare to try, I guess that could make my problems even worser.

Ooh, if that's the case, the only firmware I'd risk installing is one directly from Acer for that particular Acer part number.

I'm not sure what to suggest, I havn't had any real trouble with a unit similar to the trouble you describe, or the few times I've had some trouble, a full system restart (full power down) would solve the problem.

The only other thing that I can think of that might be similar is I've got one CD-RW drive where the "burn free" option doesn't turn on properly the first time I try to burn a CD, but the second time it does. Not that it matters much - I've never had it produce a coaster in the years I've had it. But the work around that I found (using audio-cd-creater-cdrecord/2) is I've got a small (10 MB or so) ISO file which I'll first run / burn in the "test" mode, where it does not write anything to the CD. It leaves the CD blank, but it does change whatever software switch is in the drive to turn on the burn-free option. Once that completes, I'll then do the actual burn of whatever it is I want to burn and the burn-free option will be properly turned on for that (and any subsequent) burns. I've always assumed this glitch was just something to do with CDRecord/2 not turning on the burn-free option properly the first time around, but who knows...

I've downloaded cddvdrtools version 1.7csd1 with the support for the new CD/DVD transport. I'm not comfortable in using the commandline and didn't know this kit could be used with the old audiocdcreator. But, as I guess most of you knew it was just to exchange the files in the cdrecord/2 pak with the files in this pak. Great! As a spinoff my burner now burns on first try.
