I am trying to get voicetype working with ecs 1.2R,
I have a cmedia 7838 soundcard (PCI),
installation goes without errors, on reboot,
when checking installation I get the following error:

Establishing a session with speech recognizer Failed (RC=30) [chk2014]

And then when also clicking on trying to use it I get errors as well.

Does anybody have a possible solution for this issue?

Also does anybody have it, voicetype, working with eCS
If so what version 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 ....?

thanks

I remember I had VoiceType working (!) with eCS 1.1 GA, installed from the eCS 1.0 CDs where it was contained in. I might however be wrong with where it was coming from... but the point is, that it worked.
IIRC there was the install from CD along with an update from the CD as well. And install from CD had a minor glitch, but I can't remember what it was. Nothing very severe I guess, otherwise I would recall what it was.
Sorry to not being able to help you - I might check if the setup would still work when installing on top of eCS 1.2R but I simply don't have enough time at the moment (we're about to relocate).

What MIGHT be an issue is the fact that back when I installed it, I had my Aureal PCI soundcard with non-uniaud drivers in the machine. Perhaps the uniaud driver has a problem...? Hmmm... no, I don't think on the other hand: What you described rather looks like a setup issue (something missing within the VT setup)...

Sorry, but HTH anyway
Regards,
Thomas

Did you change the install location? IIRC it only works if in a directory called VT on the boot drive.

I know I had it working, but it didn't have the British English dictionaries, so I gave up.

Its on the boot drive which is F in this case, and I am not using the uniaud drivers either, I am using the cmedia drivers

hopefully you will remember what you did to get it to work,
and post here

Should work with the C-Media Drivers. I have only successfully got it to work installed on Drive C - and there is an update for it on the web that needs to be installed. I installed it from a Warp 4 Merlin CD and then installed the update. There are instructions somewhere on how to properly do this using the Feature Installer or Package Installer (I think they might be in these forums). If I dig up something I will pass it on. I should have the VT updates on my laptop (which is at home right now). If you need them, let me know.

Well, I also tried to do the same (install VT on my R51 ThinkPad) in various eCS versions and releases (eCS 1.2R, 2.0b, 2.0b2) and came to a conclusion that the last version where VT is working is acctually the 1.2R. On "newer" versions (beta releases) it is just not working at all. Maybe some slight changes to multimedia subsystems? Anyway, I'm convinced that this is not a problem of sound hardware you are using or drivers you are using, it is merely an internal system issue.
