My old Pioneer DR-U10X are starting to give some problems reading CDs so I thought about getting a new DVD-ROM. Any suggestions on what brand (both SCSI and IDE of interest) one should get that won't give any problems when using it for Digital Audio Grabbing under OS2 ?

Hi Kim,

this is an interesting task; I'll follow the recommendations from the fellow users in here, as I am not at all satisfied with my Pioneer 303 SCSI DVD-ROM drive. It makes a hell of a "sizzeling" noise while operating... this might affect *my* drive only, but one never knows... in addtion, I am not able to play audio cd's except with Chris Wohlgemuth's WarpCD. (Tried Warp CDPlayer, PM123 CD, SB/2 CD player and so on). Might be caused by some constellation of SCSI / DMD / whatsoever drivers, but I would check for some different model!
BTW: Using MCP.

Cheers,
Thomas

Yeah, I think a few of us at least knows that one should avoid Pioneer DVD-ROM. Sad, since I've always bought Pioneer hardware when it comes to CD-ROMs. But what about the new 305 - does it have the same problem as the 303 ?

Currently I've looked at Lite-On DVD 16X/48X IDE and ASUS DVD-E616 DVD 16X/48x CD IDE, mostly for the specs. At least when it comes to the Lite-On drive, swollows most of the formats on the market. On the other hand the Asus drive was earlier said to be best buy - at least when it comes to make them region free. Don't have any real update on that topic.

Kim,

I've noticed some positive feedback on Toshiba SCSI models, but I'm not sure about it. Maybe you should post an email question to the Kiev guys that maintain WarpVision? They might be able to tell you on experiences...?

Greetings
Thomas
