I recently installed a Tekram DC-390T PCI SCSI adpater with a Tandberg TDC 3820 tape drive on a OS/2 Version 2.1 and I am unable to get OS/2 to see the SCSI adpater FIRST. What it does is it keeps loading the driver for the tape drive first before it loads the SCSI adpater. What do I need to do with my config sys to let it see this tape drive. My system originally works with a EISA SCSI Adpater which went bad so I am now using the Tekram SCSI Adpater for the tape drive and a IDE HDD. Eyerything else works find.

I would suggest to get rid of the Tekram adapter and take another, for example Adaptec. The Tekram adapters are said to be the badest choice for OS/2.

May be I might just have to do that but remember now that OS/2 finds the Tekram with the tape drive but only AFTER it tries to load the tape drive. So what I need to know is "how can I get OS/2 to load the scsi card first before it try loading the tape drive".

You need to:

1. Move the tape drive driver (usually a .SYS or FLT driver) to the very end of CONFIG.SYS, or just after an OS2SCSI.DMD driver (if present). Must appear before any OS2DASD.DMD driver, otherwise the DASD driver might claim things the SCSI driver needs.

2. Move the SCSI card .ADD driver to immediately after the IDE driver (IBM1S506.ADD). Don't get them the wrong way round otherwise OS/2 2.1 will attempt to switch boot-devices mid-boot.

Post your CONFIG.SYS if you like.

Moby.

the Novadrv sys is my tape drive and the TMSCSIM.ADD is my scsi

Try this (no warranty!):

CODEPAGE=437,850
DEVINFO=KBD,US,C:\OS2\KEYBOARD.DCP
BASEDEV=IBM1FLPY.ADD
BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD
BASEDEV=TMSCSIM.ADD
DEVICE=C:\OS2\TESTCFG.SYS
REM * DEVICE=C:\EZTAPE\IT.SYS
REM * RUN=C:\EZTAPE\ITDMN.EXE
REM * DEVICE=C:\DIGI\XALL45C.SYS /T:P /P:1005 /m:0d0000 /n:"digi"1 /f:c:\digi /D:M /V:ERRMSG.DIG
DEVICE=C:\EQUINOX\SST.SYS /name=DIGI:1 /f:c\OS2
DEVICE=C:\NOVA\NOVADRV.SYS
BASEDEV=OS2DASD.DMD
BASEDEV=OS2SCSI.DMD
REM * SET TAPE=FLOPPY
rem The following command installs a BIOS patch for the Real Time
rem Clock of this computer. PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE IT !!!
device=c:\mm_patch.com

Why was OS2SCSI.DMD remmed out? If the above does not work, try swapping the OS2DASD.DMD and OS2SCSI.DMD lines - I can't remember which one does a 'claim all' offhand.

Moby.

If you need more of the comfig then I can post all of it, my system was originally booting from a scsi with a EISA DPT20XX scsi card cinfigured for 14 EDGE using SCSI HDD and the same Tape drive.The DPT20 went bad so I am now using IDE HDD and the Tekram PCI scsi with the same tape drive.

BINGO !!!!!!!
It worked, you did it, thanks a-million, I have been fighting with this problem for 2 months now. I had rem that SCSI after I change over to IDE I thought you could not have have
both running at the same time.
I really appreciate it thanks again.
I also need to know a litte about MetaFrame and if it's possible to load MetaFrame In XP so that I can run OS/2 from MetaFrame while I am Booted in XP. This would save me from having 2 computers running at the same time. My server is OS/2 and I also use XP a whole lot.

do you mean can you run microsoft virtual pc on xp with os/2 as the guest? if so, yes. however, i run citrix metaframe which is a xserver / client like implementation for windows. software running on the os/2 machine would be able to run the windows xp server apps over the wire. os/2 does not run on the metaframe computer itself. does this help?

I think the first part sounds like it.
I am currently running XP SP2 on my Main CPU and I want to run OS/2 while Xp is Booted and running. What exactly will I need to do to let this happen. I am not very good at os/2 but what I have is a Image of the OS/2 parttitions that I reload on a DRIVE and get it going so I would love to be able to work with partition images if possible.

you need virtual pc from microsoft. it emulates a complete basic pc in which you install a standard installation of whichever os you want to install. they were allowing the server version to be used without charge. this version lacks sound support. if you are running xp then its multimedia is enough and other such desktop type supports aren't needed. your xp computer needs to be 2ghz and have 1gb of main ram. there used to be for sale an os/2 version which i currently use to run xp on top of os/2 on my computer at home.

btw. do you know what the metaframe software costs? if not, you'd better be sitting down when you find out!!

Ok now I am almost bug free, I have one last issue to figure out with my printing. I have been having a Trap 000D ERROR when ever I try to print anything. I am using a Pent III CPU.
Strange Maybe someone might be able to figure this one out but I found out that whenever I disable the FLOPPY in the BIOS the problem is solved I have no more Printer problems. What do I need to do to fix this.
