I recently purchased Jbuddy Messenger Pro after MrMessage decided to stop working mysteriously, and I need help getting it to run.

The previous Jbuddy Messenger trial I used worked with this as the cmd file:
c:\java142\bin\java.exe -cp JBuddyMessenger.jar;JBuddyMessengerResources.jar;lax.jar com.zion.apps.messenger.Chat

However that was a 1.0 and this is Jbuddy pro is 2.2. The cmd file doesn't seem to work and there are multiple new jar files, some in a \lib\ subfolder.
I am at a loss how to execute this program

Could someone with more java experience assist me in getting this program to work under eCS? The trial version can be downloaded here:

Thanks for your help

Hi

Wonder if it is a problem caused by the crap java "InstallAnywhere" installer that they used for jbuddy...

Did the install complete successfully?

I used:-

[G:\Download.OS2\PureJava]java -cp g:\download.os2\purejava\JBMProInstaller2_2_1207.jar; install

( in case of line wrap: all 1 line with space between -cp and g:)

That fired up the installer OK (I have java in the PATH), I pointed it to my \java142\jre\bin directory to set the jvm bit and let it install to my Home directory.

I then went away for 10 minutes to see if the installer could complete without glitching still - No, it cannot, it still hangs on Installing... Uninstaller.

Shame the installer still fails but the developers were not interested when the problem was reported years ago.

So, there is the 1st problem - the Installer craps out.

I had a look at trying to get this started but could not get past "cannot find main class"...

I suggest contacting the developers and asking for the command line to use to start the Pro version - but do not expect them to get it exactly right, they should get close though.

Regards

Pete

Couldn't get it up & running here either. Fortunately, MrMessage works very well for me. Did you try contacting Marty directly (or indirectly through the newsgroups) regarding your problem with MrMessage?

Thanks for the replies.

I had the same issue with the installer, but on the older version of jbuddy I was still able to go into the directory and start the program. I don't think the "uninstaller" install hang causes any problems.

I emailed marty a month or so ago when he announced he was going to start working on a GAIM port. He's stopping work on MrMessage, so I didn't want to bother him. http://mamodeo.dyndns.org/MrMessage/news.html

I haven't heard back from Zion on the jbuddy yet, my contact with them in the past gave me the impression they weren't really interested in helping the little guy.

In the meantime, I think I got jeti/2 to function (the trick is finding a good jabber server!) and will use it in the interim.

If I hear back from Zion software about jbuddy or get it working some other way, I will post the solution.
