I found this at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ecomstation that has a link to/for Flash1.7a? It is supposedly an illegal copy? Does anyone know more about it?

Unfortunately illegal would be an apt description. It is a port by Innotek that someone released without Innotek permission. While Innotek isn't loosing anything as they are not able to sell it and quite a few people can put it to good use , it still belongs to Innotek.
It is an Odininized port similiar in nature to the original acrobat port in that it doesn't use the Innotek runtime but rather has it's own environment..
The reason Innotek can't market it is because Macromedia apparently charges an outrageous sum to license it. The plugin itself is the windoze Macromedia plugin which apparently has a stipulation in its license that it can only be used on windoze. Whether that is enforceable or not would be up to the courts. I don't know if there are existing precedents in place or not.

I would think that the problem lies more in the fact that it uses a windows look and feel in it's setting dialogs (which is useless in OS/2) I think that this is the reason why their license is only for windows (if you didn't know microsoft has copywritten that horrible look and feel of default xp). Maybe they'll strike an agreement with macromedia to release it minus the settings dialog which is absolutely of no use to OS/2 users anyway since OS/2 doesn't support camera's and I don't know any who makes use of a microphone

It is stolen code owned by Innotek. Anybody loading it up to any server can be sued by Innotek and/or Macromedia. BTW it's also illegal to bundle the WIN32 flash plugin with it because the Macromedia license agreement doesn't allow that.
