Are there any VCD (video compact disc) players for OS/2? I have a couple of VCD movies; Lost In Space and The Three Stooges. I bought (won the bid on them) at eBay.com (they have alot of VCD movies and such ).

Warp 4.x have support to play mpeg1 such as VCD. So this support You have out of the box if You installed the multimedia support. If, not then something could be wrong with the installation. But look in the Multimedia folder for "Software VideoCD Player". VCD player, well guess that Tonigy ( http://www.tonigy.com ) could be used. Tonigy is an Audio/Video/Data CD IFS for OS/2 that maps tracks of Audio CD into WAV or RAW files, tracks of Video CD into MPG files and tracks of Data CD into ISO files. Use it for accessing audio, video and data tracks like ordinary files. Also Tonigy allows to access files of CD-I disks and the boot image of ISO tracks. I haven't tried so let me know how it works out.

I downloaded the pluginpak for Netscape for OS/2 (actually it was on the WarpUp disk). It works great (at least with the 3 Stooges vcd that I got from eBay.com). It plays great with sound and video (a little jerkey with the video but it could be because I have only 64 meg ram on my computer).

Don't think the problem is that You have low memory. 64mb is more than enough for the system. It is just a matter of that the mpeg player routine isn't itself that great. I would recommend You to try with other mpeg players. Have you tried WarpMeida player? You can find it here:

Another tool that You could try out is a DOS based viewer. I've tried and it works great actually. You can download it from:

I have not really got a chance to try it since my desktop computer crashed/malfunctioned and I had to replace it. I had problems with the installation of Warp but I am making progress. I will try it once my desktop is up and running.

What version of OS2 are you currently running, eCS? Or are you using the MCP/ACP upgrades via SWC?

Regarding WarpMedia; the last couple of releases have worked out rather well for me now. So you might try to give it another try again if you haven't had the time to yet.

I am running OS/2 Warp ver 4 with fixpak 15/WarpUp. The computer has 256 meg ram, 20 gig hard drive and a 700 mhz AMD Athlon K7. It runs quite well. I use an external modem from CompUSA.

I have used the vcd player from the pluginpak that is for Netscape 4.61. I have not downloaded the latest Mozilla for OS/2 since I have only a dialup connection (not always at 56k). With Mozilla being such a huge size, it would take many hours to download.

I will give WarpVision a try as well as some other programs (from hobbes.nmsu.edu ) that I found on the internet.
