Well, MindTerm Java SSH and SCP Application/Applet doesn't do the jobb when it comes to sftp. So the question is still valid, are there or will there be any kind of upgrade of ftp clients for OS2 that will support sftp?

Kim,
I hope that this is what you need...

I'm a long time user of a splendid Java FTP-programm, called JFTP
From this readme, I'm reading this:

*Making an SSL Connection
To make an SSL connection with an FTP site:
Make sure that the FTP site you are about to connect to supports secured FTP or FTP over SSL. If you are unsure, contact the server's administrator.
Follow the instructions given in the topic titled, Connecting to an FTP Site
Make sure to enable SSL by selecting any one of the following options in the Securty tab of Connect dialog.
Use SSL If Available
Use Explicit SSL
Use Implicit SSL
If you select the option Do Not Use SSL, SSL will be turned off.
Once you click on the Connect button, JFTP connects to the FTP site and negotiates for an SSL connection. If the server supports SSL, the server sends a digital certificate to JFTP. The digital certificate contains the identity of the server. If the certificate exists in your list of trusted certificates, JFTP accepts the connection and all data transmitted after this point will be encrypted. If the digital certificate does not exists in your list of trusted certificates, a Security Warning dialog will be displayed. The Security Warning Dialog allows you to choose whether or not you want to work with the FTP site. You may optionally install the certificate in to your list of trusted certificates. For more information on this, please read the topic Installing a Certificate.

JFTP 2.1 requires at least 32 MB of free RAM. Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4.2 or higher must be installed on your system. JFTP installers for some of the operating systems include a JRE 1.4.2 in them. If you have
downloaded such a package, you do not have to install any thing else before installing JFTP. For a list of available download options for your operating system, please visit

With kind regards,

I gave it a try and it works as expected, so I guess that I will start use this ftp client instead of the native os2 that I currently uses (none of the supports sftp). But, I would really prefer to get a native ftp client with proper support.

Did you try the OpenSSH package? It does include sftp. If you are afraid of the Security/2 requirement I could send you an old version, if you are patient.

Btw, you should note that sftp does not really have much to do with ftp, and so most ftp clients do not support it...

The SFTP package with OpenSSH/2 runs just fine. I use it all the time.
What's the "Security/2" requirement? Everytime there's an update, I just download the ZIP and over-write my old stuff. As far as I know, it's a separate product, isn't it?

I'm aware about this, but best def for it is sftp, secure ftp or what ever. Since there are a number of ftp clients available for os2 - are any of the authors thinking about implementing support for secure ftp?
