1. .VCD file and OS/2?
Reply to this topic with quote Modify your message
I bought a couple of (supposedly) vcd cd's. I tried them in my dvd player but it said 'no disk'. I tried them in my cd drive using WarpVisionGUI on my Warp ver 4 fixpak 15 desktop computer. Apparently .vcd files are not among the ones it can see or play. Is there a program that plays .vcd files/movies?

Well, since VCD are plain simple mpeg1 you use use OS2 multimedia viewer without any problem. An idea would be that you use AssoEdit to update your system to it plays the vcd in a proper way. But, again, both WarpVision should be able to play them, but you might need to find the proper file for it so it plays the movie.

I right click on the title bar and chose the load feature. I went to the cd drive letter. The .vcd file is in a vcd directory. After I clicked on the directory, it did not show anything.

I have found a couple of vcd programs at http://hobbes.nmsu.edu . Both are for converting files to and from mpeg and vcd. I will give them a try. One is called VCDGear and has a date of 2002. It refers to a site at http://www.vcdgear.com (or .org ? - I don't remember which). I will give it a try.

4. Re:.VCD file and OS/2? Actually the .dat file!

The .dat file had the movie. I thought it was just music since it is labeled music01.dat . When I looked at it via the file browser it had an icon with a little bit of 'movie film' on it. When I doubled click on it, the movie player started playing it (IIRC - it was the movie player plugin for the Netsacape browser). I watched the two movies I had using this method. It was really nice. The .vcd files was just information (IMHO) for/about the movie for the player.

Saw that the latest version of WarpVision now have added support for VCD:

added VCD support. Use RMB at Control window and choose Play DVDVCD. By default (track 0), WVGUI will play largest track on VCD, but you can choose another track in settings.

I downloaded the latest version of WarpVision (there was a link to it at http://www.os2.org ). I will give it a try.

The link for the dvd plugin did not work. I did not find it at the WarpVision site. Is there someplace to download it?

PS I sent an e-mail to the WarpVision site plus left a message at the WarpVision sites forum about creating a skin for WarpVision. The e-mail was sent a couple of days ago but I have not heard from them yet (still hoping). I just did the post today (at the forum).

I tried the dvdplugin again and was able to download it. I was told that the site might have been busy.

I received a reply at the WarpVision forum about making a skin for WV. I will give it a try. For information on it, one should go the forum at the WarpVision web site.

I had trouble with wvgui20030122.zip. I went to the forum at http://os2.kiev.ua and found the solution to the missing .dll file. It was a programming error and it was fixed in/with wvgui20030124.zip. I downloaded it and it works on both my desktop and notebook computer. I played the mpeg movie dragons from http://www.pocketmovies.net and it plays really nice (nicer on my desktop since it has more colors/higher density than my notebook computer).
