Question regarding if the should be any problem using cdrecord together with either Pioneer or HP DVD-R/RW's? Do you of users that have made positive feedback regarding this?
Cdrecord in general should work judging from postings on the cdwrite mailing list. If it works with the mentioned drives? I don't know but they're probably SCSI-3/MMC compliant (every new drive is/should be) and then there're no problems.
Putting an ISO image on the DVD should always succeed and reading it with OS/2 isn't a problem. You can master such an ISO with mkisofs. Things are different if you want to write UDF. It may be possible to write UDF with the UDF drivers by IBM (SW choice only). You have to look into the Readme to see if your particular drive is supported.
There're some technical ramblings about the right way to organize the data on the dvd and how to write such disks (multisession/singlesession/DAO/TAO) on the mailing list but if you just want to backup your data you don't have to care about that as long as you can read it in again .
Have a look at the following page for some information. It's dedicated to Linux but it also applies to OS/2.
If you have access to an DVD-writer just try it.
