That depends on what the machine is set to. If you physically go to the machine that you are trying to telnet to, be sure to read the online documentation for telnet.

Also, you didn't specify what version of OS/2 you are telneting to. I'm guesing it is an OS/2 Warp 4 system, in that case it should be in the same place as the TCP/IP configuration, ie. FTP, SMTP, INETD services. Be sure to close any ports/services you are not using.

Instead of using that '80s protocol (telnet), you may want to look at using SSH.

If the password is not documented by your admin person or they are not available. You will need to go to the OS/2 machine.

Open a OS/2 Command Window

Option 1.

Type "SET TELNET.PASSWORD.ID"
if nothing is retruend or null message then

if a password is set elsewhere.

Option 2.

Run "tcpcfg" command without quotes.
Got to AUTOSTART "INETD" TAB
Select "telnetd"
password will be in the parameters field.

If no password is set then this is where it is done.

Recommend the IBM Redbook sg244730.pdf on TCP/IP for OS/2 covers all the majors points for all TCP/IP services.

OK. OS/2 Version 2.4 Is there any default password? There is no password set in the OS/2 machine.
