Well, I've got some questions about this via e-mail and its just plain hell currently to pick a board. But, since a friend of mine also asked me to help out I made a list of criterias that the "new" board had to fullfill if possible, following criterias was made:

- Having 6 PCI and no ISA
- No graphics and NIC integrated
- No sounds chip (if not available, supported by OS2)
- USB 2.0
- Cheap

Well, getting a cheap board that I still dare to suggest people it a bit hard. So I usually picks known brand such as ABit, Asus, Giga etc and using Intel chipset. So after checking around at several hw site I saw that the SiS 645DX chipset have made a big improvement and as Toms Hardware site had a nice review ( http://www17.tomshardware.com/mainboard/02q2/020403/index.html ) about boards using the SiS chipset. So next is to find a board that haven't to much crap integrated (actually I find this the hardest part).

Well, to make a long story short it came down to that I picked the Asus P4S533 with following specs:

- Intel® Socket 478 Pentium® 4 processor support up to 2.4GHz and beyond
- 533MHz front-side-bus
- SiS® 645DX chipset
- 3 DIMMs up to 3GB of PC2700/PC2100/PC1600 DDR memory support
- C-Media CM18738 6-channel audio
- Optional Integrated SiS® LAN controller
- AGP 4X slot, UDMA 66/100/133
- MuTIOL® bus advanced I/O technology
- Optional SPDIF interface module
- 6 PCI, AGP 4X slot, up to 6 USB ports
- ATX form-factor

As you can see from above the board uses Crystal CM18738 sound chip and this is supported by downloadable 3rd pary drivers for OS2.

Here in Sweden the boards goes for around $120 so rather nice price. If you pick the same board that uses the intel chip the board will then go for around $180. So a slight price difference.

One setting deserves a brief mentioning and that is the CPU/Memory Frequency Ratio. It is important to keep in mind that running the CPU at a certain PCI divider (1/3 or ¼) will preclude certain memory ratio settings. For example, a 100 MHz FSB CPU (1/3 PCI divider) will allow to run the memory bus at a 3:6 ratio while a 133 MHz FSB will show up as a 4:6 ratio. In both cases, the resulting memory speed will be 200 MHz or 400 MHz data rate commonly refered to as PC3200 DDR.

I usually buy my mainboards at http://www.tigerdirect.com . The prices are reasonable. The latest one had a setting in the bios/cmos for OS/2 (about the memory setting). I have had no problems with running Warp on these mainboards and cpus (I prefer AMD over Intel - usually less expensive and runs just as good as Intel).

PS I don't know if you asking for 'recommendations' but I thought I tell you what board(s) I like.

Well, I've looked into the AMD processor couple of times and everytime I've turn them down since of the heat problem. Or to be more true, always generating so much more heat than the Intel processors.

I never really had a problem with the heat when it comes to AMD processors. I have also used Cyrix cpu's too. My room - where I keep my computer - is usually very cool which helps keep the cpu from overheating.
