1. Installing Wireless PCMCIA

I just got a Belkin 80211.b wireless (cardbus) adapter. It's supposed to work with the IBMWifi drivers and it was only $10, so I gave it a try.

My laptop is an IBM Thinkpad T40p on OS/2 Warp 4.52 with latest FP.
I installed the drivers and there are no errors booting. But aside from that, no luck (I tried it under WinXP same machine, it works). PC Card director shows a card inserted, but as memory (??). I have PCMCIA hard disk and also CompactFlash adapter, both work fine, so I know that part is okay.

The Belkin card shows no light, so it doesn't appear alive. Anyone care to post a sample CONFIG.SYS showing how to get this thing lit up? (e.g. with any wireless card).

Now I recall something about Cardbus vs. PCMCIA and one doesn't work on Thinkpads. Is this the issue?

I'm awaiting the mythical wireless drivers that's supposed to magically transform all Win drivers for work on OS/2. But till then, I don't have much other choice. Any tips?

Hello Isaac,

try to find out what kind of chipset the Thinkpad use. I Think it's an TI 15xx but I'am not sure.

More PCMCIA drivers here : http://www.os2warp.be/index2.php?name=pcmciaentry

Hi!

Isaac (04 Nov, 2005 08:11):

Is it this one?
Belkin F5D6020 11Mbps Wireless Notebook Adapter

If so, which version is it? If the version is higher than 1 than I´am sorry that I have to say:

"(...) [that the] Belkin F5D6020n comes in two versions: the first one that uses a PRISM2.5 chip, [but the] (...) v2 uses an Atmel solution", which is unsupported by any driver out now.

The quot can be found on the bottom of

PS: I nearly did the same thing which you did, I almost ordered a Belkin F5D6020n PCMCIA card, but after I read the note at the bottom it seems to risky for me. I got a Netgear MA-401 PCMCIA card instead.

Is the mythical wireless driver somehow a OS/2 Wrapper for Windows Driver which was my idee I quated here:

Aaah, problem solved. Probably.
It seems there is now a v3 of this very same card. Some poking around the Windows drivers shows that this one appears runs a Realtek 8180 chipset. Should probably submit this to the database.

Oh well, it was only $10.

BTW, I also found out BSD has facilities to use this chipset because it has an NDIS wrapper to run the Windows drivers. Here's hoping that the OS/2 one comes to fruition. I'd rather run the internal mini-PCI one that's already in my laptop.
