1. ES488 Settings for Config.sys?

I have found the OS/2 drivers for the IBM Thinkpad 760EL's ES488 audio chipset. I copied them to the MMOS2 directory. What the settings for the config.sys that would enable the sound/audio chipset? (I did not find any reference material on it in the .txt files that came with the drivers). I have tried the Thinkpad drivers for OS/2 but they indicate they do not support ES488. Any help would be appreciated.

Haven't you tried minstal? That will take care of the config.sys settings. If minstall complains that that hardware isn't in your computer, you could try to remove or fake the hardware test during installation. Afaik it's somewhere in one of the installation config files.

Is minstall part of the multemedia support? I don't think it totally installed when I first loaded Warp ver on the notebook computer. I will try it again. I will look for and try to use 'minstall' for trying to reload multimedia support.

I was looking for the settings that come after the 'device=c:\mmos2\es488dd.sys' in the config.sys.

Thank you for the help and the information.

I had deleted mmos2 directory and re-installed it. It would not even boot. I have tried re-installing Warp ver 3 after reformating the hard drive but it did not work. It would go the white square then have an error that one of the ibm* files was missing. It would then go no farther and the disekette light would stay on. Even after copying the missing file it would still not boot. I switched hard drives and was able to boot to it. I used the allegro program that comes with the free Seal System ( http://sealsystem.sourceforge.net ) and it showed that the audio chip set was not es488 but a different ess chipset (one that is supported by the 760el drivers from IBM). I will have to acquire another hard drive for my notebook computer before installin Warp again. It was an used hard drive and only 2 gig in size (once considered big but now is small).

I tried re-installing Warp ver 3 but it would get only as far as the reboot part where it has to restart the computer to continue the installation but it does not. The 'white square' comes then the 'warp' boot logo then nothing. It says it is missing a certain ibm*.* file but goes no farther. I had fdisk then reformat it (hpfs file system) but it still only goes as far as the part where one restarts it to continue the installation but goes no farther. I tried 'alt f1/f2' but I can not get the command line going (it gets as far as the 'missing ibm*.*..' file and stops. I will continue to figure out what is wrong until I am able to find an inexpensive replacement for the hard drive.

I put the diskette drive into the Thinkpad 760el. I put the cd drive into the docking station with the dock base on top of that. I put the 760el on the dock base. I was able to both the diskette drive and cd drive at the same time which enabled me to install Warp ver 4 onto it. I had some problems with the ES (not the 488 but th 1868 - IIRC) drivers that would not allow it to boot. Once the settings for the ESS were remmed out, it boots okay. Not having sound does not seem so bad since it works now. IMHO - it might have been the audio chipset that has problems.
