1. Install OS2 Warp V3 on HD 4 Gig
Reply to this topic with quote Modify your message
Hello,

I want to install OS2 warp V3 on a HD of 4 gig.
It does not work. The manual told me to install it on a partition < 500 Meg.
I made such a partition.
(2 primary partitions and an Extended - 1 primary has dos 6.22 installed)
But fdisk (OS2) still does not recognise the place where I want it installed.
It always says : drive to small (must be > 35 meg) and it indicates me a size of +/- 200 Gig (is false !)
Fdisk in dos tells me I really have 500 Meg.

I suppose I do not have the right IDE-drive for this HD.
HD has a CHS = 8910/16/63 Bios settings = 556/240/63 !

PC = Compaq Armada 1700

Who can help me ?

Regards

I have a 20 gigabyte hard drive. To install Warp ver 4, I used the updated diskettes from the fixpak or from the IBM site ( http://www.ibm.com - they have one for Warp ver 3 and large drives). I used the fdisk to install the boot manager and created a c: partition with 2 gig and a d: partition with the rest of the space on the hard drive. It installed. Before repartitioning, perhaps you can get the 'large disk' update from the IBM site (in the download section where there is an 'OS/2' drivers list). I hope this helps in some way.
OS/2 Warp-ed to the very end.

I downloaded the the fixPack for V3. (20 files xr-w040.?dk)
But I do not know how to make the updated disks to start the installation.
I do not have OS2 installed yet on any machine !
I only have dos 6.22 up and win NT/2K up and running.
How can I make boot (startup) and the the needed install- and utility disks from the fixpack ?

When I use the Install & 1ste Utility disk created from the CD OS2 Warp connect V3, I can get in OS2 prompt mode. When I start then fdisk my harddrive is NOT view as I made the partitions with PQmagic in DOS ! All my partition are FAT !
The 2 primary partitions (1 active one and one hidden) of 200 Meg are seen as 2 partition of 2 Meg.

Chkdsk c: gives me the result that my drive C: has only 15 meg of disk space.

Can you indidate me the exact location of the update diskettes from the fixpack on the IBM site? I do not find these. The IBM site is big, but not that clear to find something easy)

Regards

As I understand You mentioned that your OS2 partitiond is 2nd on the disk. Could it be that the OS2 partition is above the 1024 cylinder limit where you usually will get major headache to boot system ? If the answer is yes or if you're not sure. Try following then; remove the 500MB OS2 partition and move the 1st partition enought for you to squeze in a 500MB OS2 partition before and you might as well set up boot manager or any other partitionsoftware that will help you to boot on the different partitions. Also if you using Win 2000 or XP and using OS2 Bootmanager; mentioned OS corrupt the boot manager partition.

Let us know how it works out.

Hello,

No it still does not works !
I do not get an installable partion in Fdisk on OS2.
Primary and extended partitions are still too small (even when I made them 100Meg with Fdisk on dos !)

Hmm okey, the next thing to try is to update the IDE drivers on the installations diskettes. To download the latest IDE drivers for OS2 click here .

Latest FP for Warp 4 (US) is 15 (xr_m015) so recommend that you download this instead of using FP6. FP15 kan be found ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/fixes/v4warp/english-us/xr_m015/

To install the FP you then need the Corrective Service Facility f.143 (fixtools) or later to install the FP. Fixtools can be found here:

ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/fixtool/english-us/

Argh.. I saw now that you're installing Warp 3 and not Warp 4. But, okey, check the same urls and back down a bit in the three and you'll find what you're looking for

Download the latest Danis506 and daniatapi from hobbes os2site or so on

rename the daniatapi.flt to daniatap.flt and the danis506.add to ibm1s506.add

make space on install diskette 1 by deletening some of the following files and REMing out the references to them in config.sys :
AHA152X.ADD, AHA154X.ADD, AHA164X.ADD, AHA117X.ADD, DTP200XX,FD16-700.ADD, FD7000.ADD, FD8XX.ADD, IBM2FLPY.ADD

copy the ibm1s506 file over the original one on disk one and add the daniatiap file to it as well and add basedev=daniatap.flt to the config.sys

boot from the installdikettes and go through install phase one (you may have to reboot once or twice if you need to change the disk config in fdisk

after it has completed phase one the install program will ask you to remove the floppy disk so it can perform install phase 2 from the hard disk, remove the floppy temporarily but reinsert it and boot from diskettes once more, chen prompted for an istall option chosse F3 (go to command line and execute the following commands
(y is your cdrom drive and x is the drive that you will install to)
y:\os2image\debug\attrib -r x:\os2\boot\ibm1s506.add
copy ibm1s506.add x:\os2\boot
copy daniatap.flt x:\os2\boot
remove floppy from drive
cont-alt-del
continue install phase 2 as designed
