My local isp seems to be win xp servers that
use ms-chap. Most of the linux distros I have
wont logon, and neither have I found a ppp
driver for dos/arachne that can go beyond the
'connect'. I d/led 'safefire' which had a doc that said it did ms-chap, but I dont see any menu that asks about it. Neither did I see anything in the doc that came on the os/2 bonus pack internet software.
I get the dial out, and the 'connect', but no
point where the remote host askes for my username and password.

It is a while ago since I used modem dialers together with OS2 or any OS for that matter. But, if the normal dialer in os2 won't work I would say that you should try with Injoy Dialer from from the Danish company FX Communications, http://www.fx.dk .

Safefire PPP works great for me, you don't have to type a password in if you use the settings notebook in the PM-dialer, so it should work.

The first time I used Safefire (1.0?) it closed on me too, but that was just a setting that I had messed up. Check that the settings are correct in TCP/IP settings and the settings notebook for SFPPP and then there shouldn't be any problem.

SafeFire got a helpforum at Yahoo if that won't solve you problem. Look for "safefire".
