1. eCS; Full Version VS Upgrade Version?
Reply to this topic with quote Modify your message
I tried using the full version to install eCS onto my Thinkpad 60EL. It did not work (it did not get past the fist diskette). Would using the upgrade version of eCS work better? Would I be able to
install it after OS/2 Warp had booted and was running?

I was told that it was the same except for the licence. I had hoped one cold install eCS while OS/2 was running.

I have the full version of eCS 1.1. The notebook computer has a cdrom drive in the Thinkpad with an external diskette drive that attaches via a Thinkpad/propiety connection (made for the Thinkpad). It is an older Thinkpad before they started booting from a cdrom drive (the option was on in the bios/setup for the 760EL).

IBM Thinkpad 760EL
72 meg ram
1.2 gig hard drive
120 (IIRC)mhz cpu
currently it runs Warp ver 4 with fixpak 14
Scitech Display Doctor
no sound (I have never gotten it to work with either the uniaud driver
or the driver that is supposed to be for it (it crashes the os whenI try).

I have found and created the diskettes (1&2) for the installation of OS/2 Warp ver 4. I will try to use them to install eCS onto my IBM Thinkpad 760EL. I will return with the results.

No luck in installing eCS 1.1 onto my Thinkpad 760EL. I have the interneal cdrom drive and an external diskette drive that is made for this model of notebook computer. There does not seem to be an option to boot from the cdrom. Perhaps a bios upgrade would include that option?

I will try again to see if it works.

What could be done, if you have a fully working and supported network card for the system, is to install via the network from another eCS system. i assume that the network installation feature is still there since it was a part of Warp 4. Not running eCS so not 100% sure... but guess that the eCS users could verify this.

Perhaps a silly question, I do appologize, but you are speaking about an old computer. Therefore: Is your CD drive able to read the eCS CDs at all?

Why I am asking so silly. I am sitting at an archaic computer (Compaq AP400) with winblows Neanderthal Technology 4.0, SP6 here in my work. I am unable to read eCS CDs on it. I am unable to read my own CDs made by RSJ on it. The CD drive is okay, I can read, for example winblows installation CD The CDs are okay as well, I can read them home, where I have a far better machine - and with an operating system
Therefore, the eCS CDs are in some newer format and too old drivers (and BIOS) can be out of luck. If it is the case then upgrading BIOS will be completely neccessary but it need not suffice. It is possible that the CD drive is also too old.
