I've been working with Windows since 3.11, Linux since Mandrake 7, and a few miscellaneous project OSes in between. I like to rank myself a Windows guru, and a Linux intermediate. I've also obtained a semi-worthless piece of paper, the CompTIA Linux+ certification.

Just last week, I got a job offer, but one of the requirements is the ability to install OS/2. I've never even seen a screenshot of OS/2, let alone installed it.

Given my experience in other areas, how hard would it be to pick up OS/2? Are there any good guides anywhere?

On newer hardware, it may be a bitch. The installation still contains the old and outdated drivers. On older macines (5 years and older), installation may proceed without a hitch.

On newer hardware, the installation diskettes probably need to be updated with the latest drivers. However, this can present other problems such as running out of room since the driver files have increased in size. Then you have to decide which driver files can be removed from the disk. I believe IBM has some updated installation disks, but offhand, I don't know where they can be downloaded from. I now use eComstation, and enhanced and more up to date OS/2 licensed by Serenity to sell.

Once installed, you will see the power of the Workplace Shell. There is nothing like it, even though other OS's may managed to copy a few of its features.

Hey Skudd,

You would happen to have worked for Agilent Technologies? I ask, there doen't seem to be to many Skudds around.

Nope. As far as I know, I'm the original Skudd. My handle used to be "Skuddmuffin", but within the last 2 years I've cut it back to Skudd in conjunction with the purchase of the domain name, skudd.com.
