Title: how to unlock if you lost your password? Post by: joevella on 2011.01.20, 15:18:42 I actually didn't lose it, but it won't unlock. this is the same password i always had, and in a new installation of ecs2.0 ga i typed it twice, to set it up, then at boot I can't get into it as it keeps saying the password is wrong. how can i get around it? thanks.
Title: Re: how to unlock if you lost your password? Post by: warpcafe on 2011.01.20, 19:19:53 Hi,
is the desktop locked on startup (as you said "boot") or are you able to use the system via the WPS? (Just to determine the options we have...) And just a thought: Did you perhaps change keyboard (layout/mapping) or country settings later and the password is simply "misspelled" by this? Cheers, Thomas Title: Re: how to unlock if you lost your password? Post by: warpcafe on 2011.01.20, 19:41:38 Hi,
I did a quick check. It seems like the file in question is located on your eCS boot drive in the subdirectory \home\default\.dssaver (note the ".") and is named SSCORE.CFG. I need just to check if it is THAT simple... ;) will be right back. Cheers, Thomas Title: Re: how to unlock if you lost your password? Post by: warpcafe on 2011.01.20, 20:00:55 Hi,
success! So basically you only need to set the flags in the config file like this: (I have only noted the lines that need to be changed) Enabled = 0 Password_Protected = 0 Use_Current_Security_Password = 0 Password = The file is [your-drive]:\home\default\.dssaver\SSCORE.cfg It requires however the WPS to be (re)started AFTER the change - it does not work "on the fly". In case your desktop locks up on startup, what you need to do is... - press Alt-F1 at system boot when there is the "boot blob" (the white rectangle in upper-left corner with "OS/2" text) - this will bring up a text-mode menu - select "boot to command line" (it's F2 IIRC...) - in the commandline, enter "TEDIT \home\default\.dssaver\sscore.cfg" (or use another text-mode editor instead of TEDIT) to edit the file - make the changes like mentioned above - save file, exit editor - type "EXIT" (and return key) in the command line to reboot the system - at next bootup, evertyhing should be fine (it will boot "normally" if you don't use Alt-F1 again) Hope this helps Thomas Side-note: If you use TEDIT for the first time it may appear... "strange". A quick guide: Once it has loaded, press the ESC key (to leave the editor's command line and put the cursor into the text part). Do your changes. - If you make a mistake and/or mess up something: Press F3. It will ask "throw away changes" and you type Y If needed, reload the file, do your change - When ready, press F2 (save), then F3 (quit) - you're done Title: Re: how to unlock if you lost your password? Post by: joevella on 2011.01.21, 01:37:27 Thank you so much. This worked great - but I used the ecs boot disk and exit to the system tool, then used the standard graphical editor. I was SOL before your post - I really appreciate it.

you're welcome! Glad it worked out for you. (And it was a nice learning for me. Plus we have a new 'how-to' addition. :) ) Cheers, Thomas
