Title: [Search] Documentation Programming Display Driver for OS/2 1.x Post by: reini1976 on 2008.03.22, 13:01:52 First of all. This is a great OS/2-forum
I would start programming a VESA-Display-Driver for OS/2 1.x (for nostagic reasons), and search documentation for it? Can anyone help me? Best regards reini1976 Title: Re: [Search] Documentation Programming Display Driver for OS/2 1.x Post by: chennecke on 2008.03.23, 19:29:42 Read what he wrote, Ben. He is talking about OS/2 Version 1! GRADD is not available there, neither is the PM we know.

OK, OS/2 1.x device drivers are bi-modal -- they run in real mode and in protected mode. The real portion of the device driver will load below the 1 MB line. A 1.x device driver is packaged as a 16-bit exe, with one code seg and one data seg marked real. Any other segs can load above the 1 MB line. Probably most of the DDK still applies if you make a PDD, you will have an OS/2 1.x driver. Better get a copy of Deitel and Kogan, too. Under which machine are you going to make this development? I never used OS/2 1.x and I will like to test it out (also for nostagic reasons) but I never found any emulator that I can make it work on modern hardware. It is possible to run OS/2 1.3 in VirtualPC. But it is not possible to install it on Virtual PC. That means: Install OS/2 1.3 on real old machine. Make a image from the hard disk, and use it in Virtual PC Look at http://pages.prodigy.net/michaln/history/vm.html Regards reini1976
