Yes, it is (built on) Java, but there a lot of versions:
Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers
Eclipse IDE for Java Developers
Eclipse for PHP Developers
Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Developers
Eclipse for RCP/Plug-in Developers
Eclipse SOA Platform for Java and SOA Developers
Eclipse IDE for Java and Report Developers
Eclipse Modeling Tools
Pulsar for Mobile Java Developers
Eclipse Classic 3.5.1

...and I'm interested in the Eclipse for PHP developers. Maybe there >might< be some differences on how to run it between the different versions.

Failure is not an option.

Hi,

from the Eclipse website:
Quote
The Eclipse IDE requires that a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) be installed on your machine to run. While it can run using a Java 1.4 JRE, a Java5 JRE is recommended. Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers requires a Java5 JRE.

Also note that while Eclipse itself may run nicely on Java 1.4, plugins might require a "higher" version in order to run properly. And no, I didn't try it Smiley

Hi, I've also been looking to run Eclipse under OS/2 and I believe there is a bit of work required before that happens.  A porting attempt is being made by Leo Pino.  Here is a link to his blog detailing the effort:
