Ivan, i did check RESOLV and RESOLV2. On both connecting and non-connecting drives the addresses were the same. RESOLV2 was not the address of my DNS. I changed it to the DNS address (which was in the RESOLV file), no success
I meant to explain why I still use dial-up, thinking most would think, 'why bother?' I'm a minimalist, i find when I get a newer computer, dial-up is adequate for my needs, discourages me from looking at porn

and has been very reliable. Also cuts down on phone solicitors. It appears that wifi is nearly ubiquitous and it really works quite well now on OS/2. I suspect that when I get broadband I will use ethernet out of the router; I pick up about 10 signals from neighbors in my suburban home. So I'm a little concerned that me a problem, because I don't understand how the browser or ? configures for different sources.
Anyway, I did try pinging, email, NIST time server, nothing works.
Are resolv and resolv2 for different connections?
My isp assigns an ip address each time I phone in (ipcp_up remote?). The ipcp_up local addresses are different by 1 in the last field (.7 v .

but I don't know of a way to change it. I will watch to see if they are always the same. I doubt they are. Thanks for your time, Ivan. Steve
