Well, libMTP is doing pretty well on other OS. It has a great range of compatible devices, most of all which function fully. The Zune (why I started this bounty, I am enamored with the Zune GUI and sound quality, its exceptional, please use one if you have yet to do so) is not fully supported yet, and they need more help to get that, but most Creative and Cowon and iRiver devices work, greatly expanding the range of devices one can own and operate with eCS and Linux or OSX. My problem is that I like the new range of devices coming out, but most, if not all, are MTP, because of any number of reasons, most probably because its more safe/secure than UMS, it allows for deeper device interactions, and it comes with a kit so the developers dont need to make their own drivers and stuff for the device, saving them great work and cost.

Without a proper MTP/PTP driver or program, ALL of those devices could not be used with eCS, and I see that as a great stumbling block in the progress and attractiveness of eCS. Also for me, a great limitation in usefullness.
