Can we have conditional sponsorship? I'm willing to invest into this if I can use VirtualBox on my dual Opteron in the end (ie. if it is NOT limited to using the latest Intel CPUs).

Cheers

The usual people are already working on Virtual Box...so it's only a matter of time until there is a first official release.

Since I've put money where my mouth is  Grin : I'd like to see networking and USB support.
And having sound would also be nice  Wink .
Thanks!

OK, I put up some money in any event ;o)

Maybe Serenity should sponsor this bounty with all the money they collected for their infamous SVista program, that was never really useful (at least for me)...

I don't think the first release will have all nice addons available (like USB) but it would be great if it's otherwise usable.

I just read the VirtualBox website and it seems that USB connectivity is not open source  Sad . Clearly networking is a must, sound would be nice.

Does anyone know if serial port emulation is likely to be included?
(part of the open source code etc).

Note that for me, adding device=vboxdrv.sys to config.sys made the desktop fail to populate icons after a reboot....

Paul,

I tried your build... don't have any trouble booting with vboxdrv.sys, but trying to start VirtualBox results in 'Failed to create VirtualBox COM object. Callee RC: 0xBDD4D154'. Trying to start VBoxSVC results in 'ERROR: Failed to get IPC service (rc=80040154). XPCOM server has shutdown.' SUPInstall gives 'Installation failed rc=-37'. All this on a Intel P4 machine running eCS 2.0rc2. I'll keep trying....

  Thanks for building VirtualBox!

I also tried VBoxBFE -m 128 from a command line and get: 'Failed to load VMMR0.r0  VBox status code: -102 (VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND).

I notice at 'http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Binaries_overview' that there are several *.r0 and *.gc files listed that are not in the archive of the build - are they required?

I'm running a P4 computer with ECS 1.2R. I was able to load vboxdrv.sys fine from config.sys without disturbing anything.
But when I tried to run virtualbox.exe I am getting:
Failed to create the VirtualBox Com Object.
Callee RC: 0x80040154

I'm not sure if there is another step I am missing to install it or if I was supposed to add anything to the command other then just running that, but just thought I would share.

Thanks,

Dunno - but I just refreshed the zip to include them!

File size should be:
