EeePC install direct from USB connected CD/DVD drive Print E-mail
Posted by Martin Iturbide - Saturday, 15 November 2008

I (Ed Durrant) have created a write-up on how to install eCS 2.0RC5 to an EeePC PC701 "netbook" mini-laptop, directly from a USB attached CD or DVD drive. This is a follow up to my previous article on how to install to a bootable Secure Digital card used in the PC. This time the internal disk is used.
This write up and the required modified driver patches is presently located on hobbes.nmsu.edu at:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/incoming/How-to-install_from_USB_CD-to-Eeepc_v1.0.zip

But will later move to the the /PUB/OS2/DOC directory.

Thanks to all who assisted in making this work.

Note: although this document is specific to the ASUS EeePC PC701 the logic of how to make eCS 2.0 RC5 install to a machine that only has a USB attached CD/DVD drive should apply to all such systems.
