DSK to IMG converter
« on: June 08, 2017, 09:30:58 am »
Is anyone aware of a utility which will convert *.DSK files to *.IMG files, ie images of those files which can be mounted?

Just came across EMT4PM Diskette imager  - http://dvalot.free.fr/OS2programs.html

Seems to have quite a lot of options, but don't know if it does exactly what I want... Let's suck it and see...

Ok, it depends on the source and destination format of your disk image files. You cannot determine the format only by the filename extension. A raw image file (disk.dsk) can be simply renamed by CMD.EXE's built-in REN command to disk.img and needs no further conversion. A good indication is the file size of 1474560 bytes (for 1.44MB HD) or 737280 bytes (for 720K DD).
The best practice for different image formats is using EMT4PM in conjuntion with a virtual floppy disk driver (VFDISK or SVDISK). There's no need for a physical floppy drive or emulation device. IBM's LOADDSKF/SAVEDSKF and XDFCOPY can also work with virtual floppy drives.
