Realtek ALC892
« on: June 22, 2017, 01:04:14 am »
Hi all !

My MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition mainboard equiped with an I7 5775C CPU which has an onboard audio Realtek ALC892 chipset.
( note: all included HW - all USB ports, sata, network.. as well integrated video chipset works except the audio which provides no sound ! )

ArcaOS detected it and installed uniaudio but at reboot, audio didn't work !

Any idea to resolve this issue ?

( screen copy about audio drivers seen under HW manager )

Thanks
RD

Hi Remy

It might be an idea to see what the state of the mixer is. Open a command window in \mmos2 and enter

     unimix -list > mixer.txt

Also use this command to generate a list of unimix options and use

     unimix > unihlp.txt

Open mixer.txt in an editor and have a look at the Controls and current values, adjust as necessary referring to unihlp.txt.

I have a laptop that turns off the volume at shutdown but does not turn the volume back on at boot so I use a cmd file that runs at startup to enable and set volume.

Regards

Pete

You can also download PMUnimix from Hobbes and play with the various volume controls. Here I have to turn up the front speakers.
Sadly, there is a good chance that uniaud doesn't properly support your chip set.

Detected 2 audio adapter(s)
Error: invalid number of PCM instances for adapter 0

I am suffering from this Problem for years now, guess 2010. Uniaud is not able to handle more than one soundcard, your Motherboard has two (Intel HD and ALC 892) as most of (all modern) Laptops have since 2010.

The reason for this is mostly the HDMI port, wich has an Soundport included. These are, at least my conclusions and observations over the last 7 years. I may be completly wrong.

You have more than one instance of Sound Adapters and - even that the UNIAUD Driver loads - it will not function. On one Hardware (the Lenovo X230T) I had the strange experience that Sound did not work at all - but inside Youtube Videos.

Sorry for having no other Information. That is the reason why it is - for me - more or less useless to use ArcaOS/eCS or Warp 4.52 on modern Hardware - with no Sound Support it does not make sence for me (Personal opinion!). I am really happy with Virtualbox and the provided Soundblaster 16 Support in it.

Dave, what kind of Hardware is it exactly you are using, please? I had some experiences with the Samsung Serie 7 Slate, where Sound some times work, some times not. Mostly not. It was a very weak thing.

After review all above information and specially those about unimix -dev1 -list,
I found how to correct the problem and now, the sound is working.

Just added /A:1 parm to the uniaud32 driver.

Thanks
Regards

It's an old Samsung desktop, 2.4 Ghz C2D . PCI output attached.

Thanks Dave. Yes - Core2Duo allways worked for me as well (was around 2009 when these have been produced - working in my X200T from Lenovo)) - the Problems started with the Core-i.... (Laptops - i.e. X230T from Lenovo, that is a core-i 3rd generation) Generations beginning 2010.
I tried the /:A1 Switch suggested by Remy as well, but that does not work on core-i... Laptops.

Thanks again.
