Hardware Reports / Reviews - More - MORE !!!!
« on: November 09, 2017, 02:19:37 pm »
Hi

I was wondering if there is interest on publishing "quick" hardware reports on the OS2World Wiki.

I had made some examples of Hardware I had been testing with ArcaOS 5.0.1 and I will post them on this thread.

- Lenovo Gaming Precision Mouse
- Lenovo Multi-function Mouse M300
- Genius KB-19e NB Keyboard
- Genius Scorpion K10 Gaming Keyboard
- Genius Scorpion K9 Gaming Keyboard
- Lenovo Wireless Touchpad K5923
And reported by other parties.
- Logitech Illuminated wireless keyboard K800
- Belkin F8E206 USB Keyboard
- Logitech Unifying Transceiver
- Logitech Wireless Mouse M280

Please post your reviews, I just need the hardwareID and some quick comments.

These:

- Logitech Unifying Transceiver
- Logitech Wireless Mouse M280
- Logitech Illuminated wireless keyboard K800

were tested by me on MCP2/ACP2, so I know nothing about ArcaOS. But it should work with ArcaOS too, with big probability. Also, I should note a disadvantage of keyboard k800: It stops responding frequently on pre-boot applications, e.g., pure DOS, BIOS setup, FreeLDR, QSINIT apps. After a cold reboot it works again. And it works fine under OS/2 (I saw no times when it stops responding in OS/2, only in pre-boot environment). It is very annoying, but otherwise, it is very pleasant keyboard (it is wireless, charging from microusb, and having two rechargeable AA batteries inside, which could be replaced to batteries with more capacity. It uses Logitech Unifying receiver, which can be used together with a wireless mouse, like Logitech M280, supporting the same Unifying receiver. I also heard that the you can take two Unifying receivers, plug them into two computers and switch between them via a keypress. I did not tried this, yet, though. I ordered two more Unifying receivers on Aliexpress, waiting for their arrival. Will test them, when they arrive. The wireless keyboards/mice can be paired to an Unifying receiver by a win32 utility, downloaded from Logitech site. It is paired only once, and works without a special software on any OS.) Also, the K800 keyboard has a backlight with adjusted brightness and a sensor of hands proximity. It turns off on inactivity and turns on when you bring your hands to it. Very pleasant in use, except for that it sometimes does not responding (only in BIOS pre-boot environment).

PS: It also has no problem with key autorepeat, as with much newer USB keyboards. I bought another USB keyboard (some OKLICK model, with backlight, too, but it was much cheaper than K800) before this one, and it did not autorepeat keys, when you hold it on. K800, in difference from that OKLICK keyboard, does autorepeat well. I suspect that it is applicable to all Logitech keyboards.

This may be fixed with David's last USB driver version USB-11.17.exe.

Hello Martin,
I believe that in scanner, you should include any network scanner,
that can send the scanned document by mail or by ftp.
For this, drivers are not needed, all the more an FTP server program, to receive the documents.

I see this:

Hi Roberto.

Sure, scanners that send email or upload files to ftp should be on the list, should we call it "network scanners"? But it can be interesting to create the list of which scanners are being used by OS/2 users. If you have one, please let me know the model.

Scanner that works in os2:
Brother MFC-6490CW (A3) Very old equipment, probably not manufactured now.
Brother MFC-J5330DW  (A4)Newly acquired equipment.
As printers, neither of them works because they are GCI, and for now neither with cups.

The main problem in identifying a specific equipment is that the manufacturers constantly modify the models.

Just a few random old but useful candidates:

- Toshiba MK2001MPL 2 GiB PC Card hard disk drive.
- All Philips Snow Edition USB 2.0 flash drives, which should support USB 1.x too.
- All Philips Urban Edition USB 2.0 flash drives, which should support USB 1.x too.

Hi André

If you have those around and you can provide me the HardwareID (of the USB devices), it will be great.

When it comes to USB flash drives, it might be better to collect non-working modules as in my experience, they all work once set up correctly.

Nope. An IBM Pentium 4 desktop may accept a 2 GiB USB flash drive, but the combination of eCS and older IBM hardware won't. Lord knows why, but if WinXP replaces eCS then this device will work with older IBM hardware too.

If USB.IDS's Either Hand is not a generic vendor with a misleading name, then the information of the USB Device Monitor (and/or USB.IDS) is not reliable and all relevant details (mainly USB 2.0 and older) were already included.

If I ignore the fact that "all" devices probably won't have a single ID, e.g. a 8 GB and a 16 GB one? I've excluded a type of "Edition" (series names) I've never used, albeit that'll probably work too. So ...

... the left one of their Snow Edition series doesn't qualify. There's no USB version printed below its capacity of 64 GB. It may work, but that's unconfirmed and excluded by the USB 2.0 (or older) restriction of the product itself.

Hi Dave

I agreed that it may not be as important to collect USB Flash storage devices because they are supposedly to work, but I don't think I will be getting a massive amount of devices of people reporting.  So I don't care to if I post the ones that works and the ones that does not work.

So keep posting the hardwareID please.

Hi

I had posted both on the wiki:

- Philips Snow Edition USB 2.0 Flash Drive
- Philips Urban Edition USB 2.0 Flash Drive

André, just post the hardwareID code. If USB.ids is wrong just give me the code that "lsusb" command provides for that flash drives.
