Dear friends,

I tried to apply fixpak XR_W043 to an Warp 3 system but failed with error "CSF00257: No product has been selected.". Below is the steps on how it was applied, please advise whether the steps are correct ?

a. Download fixpak and CSF144 and create corresponding disks
b. Create 3 utilities disks from that system
c. Customize response.wp3 in CSF144 disk. Just change '\' in file to 'c:\'
d. Boot up with disks created in step b to obtain command prompt
e. Insert CSF144 disk and issue one of the following command :
In A:> prompt, FPINST WARP3          or
    in C:> prompt, a:\FPINST WARP3
f.  Insert disk 1 of fixpak when prompt
g. After a while , error message came out

Tried to boot up from c:, then insert CSF144. Issue command a:\service. Result is the same.

Some articles from internet indicated replacement of syslevel.os2 in \OS2\INSTALL directory with the one came with installation disk will help. In this case, it will not.

Syslevel show its current CSD is XR03000. Version is V3.00 Rev. 8.250

Thanks in advance.

Ouch!!. I don't remember on Warp 3 anymore.

But there is a technique not to create the diskettes that I use.
1) Download DIUNPACK.EXE (http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/system/patches/diunpack304b.zip)
2) Use Diunpack to uncompress the dsk files of the fixpack on the same directory.
3) Execute (to get uncompress) csf144.exe on the same directory
4) Download fix.cmd script ( just post it here, its a REXX script)
5) Run fix.cmd script on the same directory.
It will start the fixpack installation without the diskettes.

With that I didn't make the diskettes anymore and install the fixpack from the hard disk.

But I have never try it on Warp 3.

You'll have to be carefull with the FixPak level (if memory suits me). I believe that the higher version of OS/2 Warp 3 FixPak may have been exclusively for the OS/2 Warp Server 4 (which used the OS/2 Warp 3 kernel, not to be confused with Warp Server for eBusiness which uses the OS/2 Warp 4 kernel). Please be sure to read the readme in any case. I would recommend using a floppy install. Be sure to have the appropriate CSF kicker disks prepared. Next you'll need to get all those floppies ready for the OS/2 Warp 3 service pack. Best of wishes.

In addition to the above hints, make sure that you have the latest (or correct) version of the kicker floppies.

I also found FSERVICE to be sometimes more reliable on Warp 3 (it is the VIO version) of the CSF util...

Moby.

Hi,

Its been a while since I've installed Warp 3, but I remember most of it.  I still have a few  copies of Warp 3 kicking around that I have been known to install from time to time when I've needed to set up a quick server.

For Warp 3, you'll need Fixpak 40.  Anything above Fixpak 40 was meant for Warp Server.  There is a short REXX file on Hobbes that will allow the fixpaks higher then 40 install on Warp 3 (Fixpak 41, 42, and 43), and some people have had luck running that file and making everything work, but I've also known of people who have tried that REXX file on Warp 3 systems and installed the higher level fixpaks and then had difficulties.  Your best bet is to just go for Fixpak 40 IMHO.

You'll also want to use DANIS506.ADD  instead of IBM1S506.ADD

There are actually quite a few good posts in the old forum on getting Warp 3 to work (posts that I, along with a lot of other people, replied to).  Check them out:

Hope this helps.

Miturbide, James, Mobybrick, Fahrvenugen,

Thank first for your help.

Besides those mentioned info, I found the follow URLs which also described how to apply OS/2 Fixpak (Warp 3 or above)

1. http://www.tavi.co.uk/os2pages/fixpaks.html
2. http://dink.org/fixpak.htm
3. http://www.warpdoctor.org/walter/articles/1999/aa072199.html

Hello, here you talk of Warp 3 and Warp Server only !!!
Do not forget Warp 4 !!

Warp 3 and its variants are having a different directory / file structure which is more simple than the Warp 4 ones !
The same is for Warp 4 Server which bases on Warp 3 !

WSeB is basing on Warp 4 and therefor called 4.50 ...
... but MCP's for Warp are called 4.51 and 4.52 ...
... and not to forget eCS basing on 4.51 too !!

My hint: Do NOT mismatch Fixpacks of Warp 3 and 4 !!!

Regarding Fixpack numbers:
Somewhere in the ends of 3x is the end of Warp3 Fixpacks !
It's been too long since I read about and dealt with and so I am unable to call the exact FP #  Undecided

Good luck !  Grin
