I have a curious problem with java6.
I did install java6 from the .wpi file from Hobbes. Java applications work well.
The problem is: After I start ECS; VBOX work fine but if I run any Java6 application thereafter impossible to start VBOX.

Hi bbouchard
Can you describe a little bit more the problem.
I guess that you are runnign eComStation (2.1?) on a Virtual Machine running VirtualBox.
Is the host OS, Windows or Linux?
I don't understand "I run any Java6 application thereafter impossible to start VBOX."
- Does it show any error?
- Does VBox stop responding?
- Or is the eCS VM the one that stop responding when you run a Java application? Is it freezing?, trapping?

The operating system on my computer is ECS 2.1. Work well and corectly.
After a fresh start I can run VBOX, stop it and run it again without any problem. The guest system on VBOX is window XP.
If I run any Java6 application (the Java6 application will run corectly even if VBOX is running) but if I stop VBOX (and a Java6 application have been used) it wont be possible to start VBOX any more. no error message it just simply don't start.
I never had such a problem with Java1.42.
Hope this will help to understand my problem.

Hi bbouchard
Does vbox rely on libc063.dll?
If "Yes" do you have the libc064.dll package installed? - this contains a replacement libc063.dll file which is a "forwarde" to libc064.dll.
If "Yes" try backleveling the libc063.dll file to the last libc063.dll that worked; probably this 1:-
11-06-07 10:53p 1,349,060 0 a--- libc063.dll
I'm only suggesting this as I have seen several newsgroup posts suggesting that the libc064.dll may not be "bug free". If this action resolves the issue then we will know there is a problem of some sort with libc064.dll.
Apart from the libc063.dll I'm not sure if there is anything else in common between java6 and vbox...
Regards
Pete

Hi bbouchard,
I managed to reproduce your problem on my eCS system. I have also installed openjdk with the wpi-pack on hobbes. I have had problems with Frostwire (see other thread) connection. I started Frostwire by double clicking on frostwire.jar as the openjdk.wpi-pack make a java-start object for you. However when starting same frostwire.jar by commandline (java -jar frostwire.jar) or by a cmd-file with the same expression, Frostwire works.
Now, I did start another java-program by doubleclicking on its jar-file (this time I randomly chose Arachnofilia) and well it launched fine and seemed to work. But after doing that I can't launch vbox!
So please try to start a java-program the command line way instead and see if that will make it possible for you to start vbox afterwords.
I tried some other programs functionality after double clicking jar: Except for vbox I also get trouble with pm123 (first I get error "no active output" the I can launch but not open any file, but already loaded file turns out to save as wav. It turns out that the DART-plugin has disappeard.. ), ecomarket (don't launch), pmmaps (don't launch), pdfmerge (just an error message).

I repeat your test here are the results:
I start java6 program using a command line like: (java -jar d;\progrmas\openjdk\bin\arachnophilia.jar) and (java -jar d;\progrmas\openjdk\bin\bluej-306.jar). Both java program start normaly and after closing them VBOX start normaly.
I then start these programs double clicking on the .jar icon. Yes the programs start but thereafter VBOX refuse to start.
It seam that the problem happen when the java program is started in doublecliking on the java file.
