Programming / Re: ODIN - loading DLLs
« on: May 02, 2019, 02:05:06 pm »
Talking about Odin DLLs, does anyone know how to convert real win XP DLLs so they can be used by Odin?  I have a program that displays the output of my weather station but it runs on windows only so I am reduced to using a dual boot setup to run XP.

Hi Martin,

I assume you have had a look at some of the frameworks available on git.  A good list is at:
https://scotch.io/bar-talk/10-node-frameworks-to-use-in-2019
Where you go from there is a good question as I see little js in any browser because of noscript being active.

At the moment it appears that clicking on a link in the forums section returns an http:// url which gives the error.  Making that to an https:// brings up the forum post.  It is going to be a PITA if we have to do that all the time.

Hi Pete,

Your network setup makes sense when explained, I have the same here except that end of the range is reserved for ADSL modem, managed switches and other network hardware.

Since there was trouble with the forums yesterday I borrowed the manual for the printer from a friend that has one.  I think you may be limited to scanning using the webscan built in interface because anything else requires windows specific drivers to work.  I hope I'm wrong and the CUPS people have managed to get round that.

Hi Pete,

Are you sure that the ip address of the printer is 192.168.1.252?  Since the standard way for the printer to get an IP address is from the router DHCP server pool and I haven't seen a router that uses the x.x.x.252 unless it is its own ip (default gateway).  If that is the case you are asking the router to do the scanning.

Hi Dariusz,

Have you tried backleveling lucide to 1.3.5GA (2012-09-13) to see if that changes anything?

I have had problems with most versions beyond that one and since it reads all the PDFs I want I standardised on that version (yes it reads PDFs from my NAS boxes (DNS323 & DNS 320) without problems).

OT and out of curiosity what TCP/IP monitor are you using? The one I have always used stopped working when I upgraded to ArcaOS.

Hi Pete,

I think you need something like 'Net Scan' (an Android app I have on my Samsung tablet - I think it also works on an Android phone) to find the IP address of the printer, once you have that you should be able to talk to it.

Hi Doug,

If your Brother printer has built in postscript (brScript) you should be able to add its ppd to the PSPRINT driver and print directly to it.  I have both my Brother colour laser printers (DCP-9020cdw and HL-3170cdw) setup that way - all functions on both printers work including double sided printing and scanning with the 9020.

Regarding HP win printers, I have friends that bought a couple of them and could never get them to work with win 7, the installer insisted that the OS needed updating to win 8 or 10.  They ended up selling them and getting Brother printers that just worked.

Hi Pete,

Past experience with HP Envy series printers shows that they are almost all win printers with all that entails.

If you can get to a web based setup and it allows scanning to FTP on a local network you might be able to do something and all it requires is setting up Peter's FTP server on your computer, that is what I do with scanning on my Brother DCP-9020cdw laser printer.

Hi Pete,

Another problem with the Logitech wireless trackball is that it is for right handed use and I'm left handed hence my use of the kensington ambidextrous trackball.

Olafur,

I haven't tried using a M.2 card as a disk in any of my Ryzen units because at the moment I am using hybrid FireCuda disks but I think they may need a  modified AHCI driver to be able to use them even in AHCI mode.

At the moment the biggest problem with AM4, and I think Intel, boards is the total lack of USB 3.1 drivers.  There are workrounds but they are pretty and don't work very well in an industrial setting - too many cables hanging off the back with adapters plugged into adapters which can work lose.

Don't know about the Logitech units but I have almost always used https://www.kensington.com/p/products/control/trackballs/orbit-optical-trackball/ the Kensington units (I have 6 of them about the house) with 1920x1200 monitors and I have to play with the settings to stop the pointer flying off the screen.

Hi Pete,

That might be an idea if I can find a wireless optical trackball with a minimum 40mm ball that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.  I also have a very good bluetooth keyboard that I use with my Samsung Android tablets but OS/2 / ArcaOS doesn't have bluetooth drivers.

At the moment I'm still considering the Fatal1ty board because it has more options, the A300 is limited by its size.

Hi Roderick,

The SATA connectors are entirely separate from the M2 slots, (see attachment 1) and from what I have been able to find out you can have 2 sata disks and 2 M2 sticks all working together.

The USB might be a problem but on all the other ASRock  mini-itx boards that I have used (AM1 socket) they have dedicated USB 2,0 sockets where they say they do.  If that holds true for this board then the USB 2.0 socket on the rear panel should work with a USB 2.0 Y cable for keyboard and mouse.  Checking on the bios setup there is a switch to allow win7 USB wake support and since win doesn't come with USB 3.1, I think we can assume the USB 2.0 ports are real USB 2.0 as allowed for in the chipset tables.

Thanks for that information.  It is the follow on to the ASRock AM1H-ITX board that also uses an external DC power supply.  The thing that makes it a deal breaker for me is its use of SODIM memory modules (I have several 4GB DDR4 standard units available).

I am now thinking of updating the mini-ITX motherboard that hangs on the back of one of my monitors.  The problem is that it needs to have an AM4 socket to allow the use of an AMD Ryzen 3 2200G processor with its integrated graphics processor.

I have considered an ASRock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming board which would allow dual booting with Linux Mint for such times I want to play games.

Does anyone have any experience with this board or any other AM4 socketed mini-ITX boards that they could comment on?

The attachments show the proposed board and the case it is to go in (to give an idea of size if the case the DVD drive is standard width but only 9.5mm high).
