Title: system beep volume---Solved
Post by: Rich442 on December 23, 2016, 11:36:44 pm
I am using the OS/2 Convenience pack (Warp 4.52 plus Warp Server-eBusiness) on a fairly recent AMD PC. After completing the install, I went into Setup-->Sounds and turned off all system sounds ( I think of them as the Star Trek sounds).  While this does turn off the Warp sounds, there are a number of loud (internal speaker beeps that remain:
Inserting USB drive device: beep
Mounting/identifying the USB and its assigned drive letter: beep
System shutdown: Three short beeps.
ejecting a USB drive: beep

Do these beeps mean anything more than just indicating that a device has been mounted? Is there a way of turning them off or lowering their volume?

The system board speaker is probably connected to the sound card somehow. The sound card volume controls should lower, or raise, the volume, if you can figure out how to do it.

In eCS, I usually edit C:\MMOS2\MMPM2.INI (it is a text file), to set  mastervolume=70 but you may need a different value.
