Applications / Re: Running old OS/2 Software - Issues
« on: September 26, 2021, 07:14:55 pm »
Hi
I have an issue with the Lotus FreeLance demo (Freelan1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

I tried to unzip all 5 files in a single director and run install. The install procedure works, until it is left blank and it locks there. (check picture).

Does anybody has a suggestion on how to fix that? Or is that an issue that had happened before with the installer?

Hi

There are several INI maintenance tools distributed over "/pub/os2/util/wps", "/pub/os2/util/system" and "/pub/os2/util/config".
I'm tempted to consolidate all the INI tools to "/pub/os2/util/config"  (Configuration editors), what do you think?

Utilities / MultiUser support for OS/2
« on: September 24, 2021, 06:28:40 pm »
Hi

During Warpstock, there was a question if it had been considered for ArcaOS a multiuser support feature. We know that currently there are no plans, and I personally have no need for it, but I feel like it would be interesting to how an OS/2 multiuser support should work, only as an theoretical exercise.

What Multiuser support should provide?
- A way to create roles, usersIDs and password for the OS.
- A logon window when the WPS boots asking for UserID and Password
- A specific location the the user desktop and personal files.
- One user files should not be able to get accessed by other user.

At least this is like the basic things that came to my mind.

Now, I want to ask, there some multiuser software available for OS/2. Do you have some experience (good or bad) with it?

Thanks for your answers.

Heck, maybe we could do a quick "testing back and forth" here first?
There is no problem with that. I think it will be a good way to test the "theme" first with other people that uses VSlick

We are such a small community that it feels like tossing something into Hobbes will go practically unnoticed. Maybe GitHub...I need to look into that though, haven't done anything with that before.
I suggest, that once you have a version that you want to share it broadly public, upload it to hobbes and let me know to post a news at OS2World. Github is also good place too to store the source (text files) and work the versioning of it with git.

Hi Dariusz

I had quickly read the PDF and looks very good. Possible I can only suggest to put your name, date and possible a license on the rules on how to use your text (Free? Creative Commons?).

I don't have or use VSLICK, but I after following the links on the PDF text I got a question. Where can the "Modern Editor Theme for OS/2" configuration files can be downloaded? I'm guessing that an INI and VLX files should be provided, or I'm guessing wrong?

Thanks for writing this.

Hi

I need a place to put all the document viewers for Inf, PDF, Djvu, BOO, etc. With apps like NewView, Lucide, Acrobat Reader, Bookmanager, etc.

I'm thinking on creating "/pub/os2/apps/docviewer", instead of using "apps/misc" or "util/system"

Thanks guys. I will check it out on a different machine, or I will refresh the VM I'm using just to be sure about it.

Hi

I found this other software that does not run.
tafeld08.zip. (1996-04-03)
No source code, just binaries. It seems all DLLs are available (I checked the EXE and DLL with PMDLL).

I get this error:

TAFELED.EXE 0001:00054c2d

Since we don't have source code of it, I don't know if something can be done to make it run.

I have attached opendlg.lib from th V1.3 toolkit.

Hi Mike.
Even that it seems that not be needed right now, thanks for letting me know that it is from the 1.3 Toolkit. I think  I would need to list what it is included on the 1.3 toolkit (Libs, tools, etc) on the EDM/2 someday, so at least it will be searchable on the internet for someone else having problems with this old Libs on old source code.

Hi

I think that the first stage of the hobbes reoganization (the first stage in my head) is almost ready. It was to rename and relocate some programs that where in the main category of some directories. For example there was a lot of stuff on "/pub/os2/util", "/pub/os2/apps", "/pub/os2/apps/graphics", "/pub/os2/apps/mmedia", etc, that were relocated to the correct directory. There are still something missing, like "/pub/os2/apps/comm" that is a mess.

The other things was to try to remove the excess of same apps with different version on hobbes (remember that we have backups). It still a work in progress.

Now I will focus on the super boring task of trying to rename and if possible reorganize some the apps. It is so boring that I prefer not doing it on a straight forward order, that's why my uploads seems so random. These will take some months.

Thanks Dave. It is working.

I'm packaging the exe and makefile on the zip file and I will upload it to hobbes.
I'm moving it to "/pub/os2/apps/graphics/presentation" since it seems it not for making animations :)

I see it wants an unknown library, OPENDLG.LIB,
Hi

I found some other OSS projects that makes reference to OPENDLG.LIB on github
- https://github.com/search?q=org%3AOS2World+opendlg.lib&type=code

I also found that FileDLG also makes a reference that it used to be called OPENDLG, but not sure if it is the same thing.

But I still can not find the missing OPENDLG.LIB
