Hi Gregg.

I never got a report from that machine. But I guess it will work with exception of the wifi.

In which condition and price do you find it?
On the US, on ebay it sold between $90 and $200 used.
Some refurbished sellers have it between $350 and $500, but all vary according the condition.

Applications / Re: FeatherPad for OS/2
« on: June 28, 2021, 02:30:39 pm »
I looked up on the other repositories of the FeatherPad author. He also has FeatherNote (notes editor) and Arqiver (archive manager).
Anyone interested in a port of these two applications?
Hi
I saw the screenshots of both and look interesting. I want to test "Arqiver".

Thank you Jochen.

I just installed it (rpm version) and seems to be working fine. I will be trying it further, since it is the first time I'm using it. It looks very good.

Just one thing, the "Help -> About" says it is version 0.19.0.

Applications / Re: FreeRDP - we have options!!!
« on: June 25, 2021, 06:55:29 pm »
Hi

Today I wanted to use FreeRDP for a test drive. I enabled remote desktop on a Win10 machine on my network, I used FreeRDP, created a WPS FreeRDP client object and connected to the Windows full desktop without problems.

But my question is how to run only one windows app on your ArcaOS desktop like Chrome or Firefox (like this image: http://os2.snc.ru/product-freerdp.html#img:07.png)
I tried on the "RemoteApp" tab to put the link directly to chrome.exe, but it did not connect. I guess I'm missing more configuration, or the some quotes "".

Sorry, I needed to remove my last message because I was with the wrong user.

Here it is what I deleted:

There is something wrong with the NLS translation. You've rebooted after installing? I think it's sometimes (always?) not enough to restart the Desktop to read the new string resources.

You're using the EN version, right? I've no such problem with the DE version. I have to test the EN version on ArcoOS. Will do in the next days.
Hi
I don't remember if I rebooted, so I rebooted again the VM and the error remains. I'm using the english version with ArcaOS 5.0.6

Hi Andi

I found this issue on "Unofficial xwp XWorkplace 1.0.13" (Check screenshot) . Can you confirm if it work fine on your side?
(Installed over ArcaOS 5.0.6)

Hi Andi.

Thanks for the update. I'm just trying it on the ArcaOS 5.0.6 VM and it is working fine.

Do you want to upload the source code here? https://github.com/OS2World/UTIL-WPS-XWorkplace
Until you get the access to the trac.

Applications / Re: Creating some apps RPM packages
« on: June 22, 2021, 04:19:28 pm »
Hi
What Martin was talking about was RPM-izing legacy type OS/2 apps.   That has lots of benefits, and some downsides.

I insist it is not a "all or nothing" effort, or that it is going to replace the common way to distribute software in zip/wpi files. It is just trying to "RPM-izing" what can actually work, there will be OS/2 apps that do not work under the RPM path structure and some that don't. It is going to be impossible for me alone to convert all OS/2 apps to have a RPM/YUM install alternative, so help will be always welcome. I also respect the choice of people that like to have the zip and wpi files and want to have the control on where files are stored, but on the present time, it seems that a lot of people does not care where the installer stores the .dll and files, just care the apps works and provide him some service.

But I still haven't full started with the RPM installers. On my last attempts I got stuck with the WPS integration to create icons and set the properties of WPS objects (Path, working directory, etc). I usually get the answer that it works, but I'm doing it wrong, but nobody tells me how to do it right.

The other things that drives me crazy on the specs files is to know the variable names for the paths (directories) and the fights with the slashes and backslashes. I had even made this quick list to try to remember the names of variables.

Regards.

Hi G.M. Anchieri

How is the HDD that has the JFS partition connected to your Windows PC? Is it IDE, SATA?
Is it a different HDD from the one that you are booting Windows? Or is it like a dual boot machine where you have Windows partitions and the JFS partition on the same HDD?

I have never tried it, but maybe you can connect that HDD to USB with an adapter, and attach the USB device to the ArcaOS Guest.

Hi
I tested it with ArcaOS 5.0.6 VM guest on VBox 6.1.22 (Windows 10 host).
- VM ICH AC97: Works, Audio control working, no traps.
- VM Intel HD Audio: Produce audio, but gives looping sound at end. Audio control working, no traps. (VirtualBox bug Ticket 20273 remains)

Thanks Paul for this update.

Hi
Now I want attach a couple of disk formatted in JFS as shared folders to work on, but I can't attach it because
in the shared folders window of VBOX this disk is not viewed as normal disk by Win7 and if attach one of disk presented, I receive the window error that tell me that the disk is not properly formatted and give me the option to format it or cancel the mount.

If understand correctly,  you have some VHI images files formatted in JFS, and you want to mount those to access it from your ArcaOS VM.

Instead of attaching it on shared folders, add the VHI image as an extra drive on the VM Settings - Storage - Add Hard Drive.
(Check attached picture)

But, if you have a JFS partition on the host machine, and you want to access it from the ArcaOS Guest, I have no idea if it is possible. (Since the Windows Host does not have JFS support).

Where should I put pdfmerge? I'm not sure if it goes to "/pub/os2/apps/wp"
Maybe it should go on "/pub/os2/apps/wp/convert"

Sorry to interfere in the debate. I appreciate the idea to create and serve an OS/2 file archive. But what I really don't understand is why Hobbes is flooded with outdated files the had been deleted at the time creating much confusion.

Hi Harald.

To move, rename, or improve descriptions of the hobbes files, you need to upload them to the incoming directory. For the moment I haven't get any other way to improve hobbes directly from other place.

"flooded with outdated files the had been deleted at the time", what do you mean? please specify the file.
If it is about old drivers, I already explain it in past posts (and the latest drivers I uploaded are the same that were already at hobbes with an improved name and description). If it is about software, I'm reorganizing some file and re-uploading the last version of  software that is already there, usually to move it to the right directory.

Also, for people checking the incoming directory, check also the .txt file where I put the release date of the file.

Hi

About Uniaud, I will keep thinking about it for some days.

For the moment I'm reorganizing and relocating the easy stuff that is obliviously located on the wrong place, like just over "/pub/os2/apps",  "/pub/os2/util" and "/pub/os2/games".

Where should I put pdfmerge? I'm not sure if it goes to "/pub/os2/apps/wp"

Also PMPrintf seems to be a different versions in different locations. I guess the right place is "/pub/os2/dev/util".

Remember that there is a backup of hobbes (2021-05) on a couple locations.
