Hi All
I'm happy to start a wishlist:-
ACPI support - (AMD990/SB950 specifically)
USB3 support
SATA3 support
Wireless NIC support
Updated SNAP with support for current/recent ATI/AMD/nVidia chipsets
I'm sure others can add to the above :-)
Regards
Pete

Hi Pete
I slipped this topic so we can discuss the wishlist / Santa's list :)
Let's remember last year Wish List that we discussed on this forum (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Warp_Wish_List_2014). I think that some of that wishlist remains valid.

Hi
I will like quickly list Jan-Erick suggestions:
System Apps.
- A GUI (or Wizard/SmartGuide) front end to diskinfo.exe would be interesting.
- File recovery tool paired with an optional setting for JFS to always write .LONGNAME EA's or special inode filename info.
- QT4 ODBC DataBase Manager + unixODBC backend
- TCP/IP configuration tool.
- New Image/Icon Editor.
Service
- Online software catalog. (Maybe Yumie will cover this).
Installer
- Live CD and Installer on the same media (DVD or USB)

- Java 1.7
- Updated POSTGRES
- Eclipse IDE or Netbeans
-
Drivers
- which can read more temp sensors, like that embedded in modern CPUs.
- which can drive more fans like ones, which aren't announced via ACPI.

Hi Leonardo,
- Updated POSTGRES
I have some builds of newer postgres - PM me for a URL for testing...
Cheers,
Paul

TeX Live and friends
We have an excellent TeX-IDE: TeXStudio.
We need a modern TeX-Distribution: TeX Live.

Just a bit of information but Blur Lion has an article in the Register http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/11/03/os2_returns_arca_noae/ (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/11/03/os2_returns_arca_noae/)

But at the moment, I have problem with their FreeType build.

Hi.
I have another things on my wishlist, not critical, but more related to a service for the user community.
Having a "Labs Zone" for Blue Lion customers to share files and allowing customers to contribute to that space.
The idea is that there are some projects and experiments around that can not be shared because that projects contains/requires/uses IBM OS/2 copyrighted binaries.
Ex:
- Sigurd UpdCD Warp 4.5x - Having an "AS IS / Not Supported" file beta zone where Sigurd (if he wants, this is only an example) can share his full ISO for testers to other Blue Lion customers, so he can not worry about distributing IBM files since all "Blue Lion" customers has the legal right to use IBM OS/2 files.
- OSFree for example did some experiment with RAMFS and can not share the demos because it contains IBM OS/2 files.
- My experiments breaking OS/2 VMs, so other users that want to experiment can help me breaking OS/2 VMs too.
So the idea is to have a place where people that have the rights to use IBM OS/2 binaries can share them to their own OS/2 experiments.

Freetype should be easy. Does the network build test for existing libraries? If so, you should install already ported versions of whatever has already been ported. Easiest with yum/rpm. Yumie should be out soon, at least a rc which makes things easier.

Yes, FreeType is easy, I can build it. But since TexLive has its own build system, it has its own patches and that's what's broken.
I used a precompiled FreeType. Doesn't work as well.

Getting back to the idea of this thread for requesting possible additions to Blue Lion.
I would like to see the input/output filters of Describe updated to read/write ODF documents. Failing that a stand alone word-processor like AbiWord could be ported.

Hi
I also will like to see a revival of XWorkplace, I will write something about it soon.

I'm a little late to the conversation. ;D But here's my 2 canadian cents:
- OS/2 (Blue Lion) official support under glorious Hyper-V.
- And regular communication from Arca Noae. Not every week but something like in between 2~3 months.
-
Drivers
- which can read more temp sensors, like that embedded in modern CPUs.

For reading data from modern intel CPU temp sensors, try this: CPUtemp by Andrey Vasilkin (Digi) (http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/h-viewer.php?dir=/pub/os2/util/system&file=cputemp110.zip&backto=%2Fh-search.php%3Fsh%3D1%26button%3DSearch%26key%3Dtemperature%26stype%3Dall%26sort%3Dtype_name%26dir%3D%252F) Also this driver used in System Load monitoring tool by Digi (http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/h-viewer.php?dir=/pub/os2/util/system&file=sl102_repack.zip&backto=%2Fh-search.php%3Fsh%3D1%26button%3DSearch%26key%3Dsystem%2Bload%26stype%3Dall%26sort%3Dtype_name%26dir%3D%252F).
-
On the same subject is http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/h-search.php?key=coretemp&pushbutton=Search (http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/h-search.php?key=coretemp&pushbutton=Search), works also with the driver from cputemp and if using both, the driver from cputemp is preferred.
-
Anything for AMD processors? All our systems use them except for a couple of standby servers.
-
According to http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/howitworks.html (http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/howitworks.html) it would probably be trivial to adapt CPUTemp to read AMD CPU temperature (change the register the driver reads and update the arithmetic) and not much harder to expand it to reading all modern CPUs. Of course even easier if the developer has the hardware for testing.

The Reactor temperature widget, that comes with later eCS versions, works with AMD processors, but I find that you need to go to the widget properties, and change the motherboard setting from "ACPI standard" to "ASUS P5B".
Having said that, it doesn't work with my new Asus A88MX-A motherboard, with either setting. So I tried some of the suggestions:
On the same subject is http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/h-search.php?key=coretemp&pushbutton=Search, works also with the driver from cputemp and if using both, the driver from cputemp is preferred.
This one did some strange things on the Asus A88MX-A. I installed the rdmsr driver, and rebooted. So far, okay. Then, I tried coretemp.exe. The screen went black, and I had to use reset. At boot, I saw the eCS logo, and the screen went black. Tried again, with the same results. I had to power off, and turn off the power (pull the plug), to get it to boot again. Of course, I removed that ASAP. Oddly, no CHKDSK was needed after it finally went.
For reading data from modern intel CPU temp sensors, try this: CPUtemp by Andrey Vasilkin (Digi) Also this driver used in System Load monitoring tool by Digi.
I haven't tried the CPUTemp package, yet, but CPUTemp from the System Load package simply says that it can't find file CPUTEMP. Also, running SL.EXE doesn't show what is shown in another thread.
So, I tried it on both of my Intel based ThinkPads (T510, and L530). SL.EXE shows exactly the same things as I see on the Asus, including not finding the file CPUTEMP.
I need to do more experimenting, when I find the time...
-
I haven't tried the CPUTemp package, yet,
Okay, I tried it. As expected it says "Unsupported CPU" on the Asus A88XM-A machine. This one does, however, indicate temperatures on both of my Intel ThinkPads. The temperatures do not agree with what the Reactor widget shows, but they are in the expected range. I suspect that the Reactor widget is showing the motherboard temperature, while CPUTemp is showing the core temperatures (but it doesn't show a temp for the "offline" CPU, when ACPI turns one off - yes, I added "-w"). The widget also only shows one temperature, which I assume is CPU 0 (the popup shows both).
Interestingly, SL.EXE now shows the CPU data, but it is not the same as what was posted in the other thread. Each CPU (two of them) is in a box, stacked on top of each other, not side by side, as is shown. AH!, If I shrink the main window, top to bottom, the individual CPU boxes do go side by side, but they are big enough to show the temperature.
So, it seems that displaying temperatures is a hit and miss thing, and the user is left wondering what they are looking at when it does work.
CPUTemp from the System Load package simply says that it can't find file CPUTEMP
It seems that the CPUTEMP package put CPUTEMP.DLL into \OS2\DLL. There is no such file in the SystemLoad package. It would seem that some parts are missing, and the docs don't mention anything like that.

Add zip, rar & 7z directly to the WPS
This has been opensourced, thanks to Martin !
ZipZap v1.25 is a WPS extension that allows you to manipulate ZIP .. maybe add 7z and rar to this simple app.

There's no need to 'backport' anything, all eWorkplace features are in the main XWorkplace source tree. They're built from the same sources.

You can install both the full versions of XWP & Styler/2 over the the one from eCS.

I'd like to see into xCenter/eCenter notebook, an option to also support (switch between) a scrollable self arranged menu and submenu for it: i have a lot of software here and finding something it is always an issue: i need often to use finding tools :P !
If I open a folder full of objects, it covers the whole screen and it becomes difficult to use mouse to select!
-
I'd like to see into xCenter/eCenter notebook,
What do you mean by that? XWP proviides many notebook (properties) objects.
-
You are right, Andreas: the eCenter/xCenter properties notebook (or somewhere), tab View or Style.
