I really think you're not human but some kind of (badly programmed) AI. Only here to spam this forum with your mostly unrelated junk to annoy the last remaining OS/2 users.

We do not discriminate here, not as far as I've aware, so even badly programmed machines are welcome :)

Though it would be nice to confine unrelated junk to the relevant forum.

Networking / Re: Subnets routing?
« on: November 08, 2017, 12:26:20 pm »
InJoy Firewall includes NAT, you can also run more than one copy to create two subnet's but this is something I've not done for over 10 years and have no idea if Bitwise works version allows that (including in it's license).

With your x:\mptn\bin\setup.cmd file, you can add other routes without problems even without using InJoy but once more this is something I am very rusty with as it's been so long.

route -fh
arp -f
ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1
ifconfig lan0 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
dhcpstrt -i lan1 -d 0
ifconfig lan2 192.168.2.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
route add default 10.0.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.255 -hopcount 1

experiment with:-
==> route add -net xxx.xxx.xxx.xx netmask 255.255.255.255 -hopcount 1
or
==>route add -host 192.168.2.1 10.0.0.2

ie, you need to add a route from your second network to where you want the packets to go, also, hmm, no idea how it works with DHCPd :o)
I would use static IP's as its easier to plan out on paper, then use InJoy's DHCPd module to hand out IP's if you need to for other devices.
Actually, come to think of it.. I think you can setup InJoy with a seperate range for it's DHCPd to the two static ranges ..

Quote
devices on lan0 would be effectively hidden from devices on lan2?
Assuming your routing has been setup correctly then yes, devices on LAN2 can be hidden from LAN1 but remember this is only on the software layer. Unless it is required I would setup your internet modem/router with a second internal IP if it has more than one ethernet port and physically separate the networks. Depends on what you wish to do like monitor via InJoy's GUI etc.

Hope I'm not confusing you, I'm getting old :)

The following is a link https://qeasttrial.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6hVHWh8VetkWpP7 to an
online voluntary survey being conducted as part of a research project. We are trying to obtain as many responses as possible and I am asking for your help in accomplishing this. If you are interested in responding to this survey, and you are aged 50 or older, click on the link below. It will take you approximately 15-20 minutes. Your participation is completely voluntary and all of your answers will be kept confidential. I appreciate your time.

Technology & Aging

Next, I would like you to consider helping us disseminate the survey through your social networks. If you could do the following, we would
appreciate it:
 Post this on your Facebook wall
 Forward it to members of your social networks via email
 Post to listservs to which you belong
 Tweet it if you use Twitter.

Thanks so much for your help on our research project! If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please contact me (Shelia Cotten) at cotten at msu dot edu.   (Michigan State University)

Thank you in advance for your help with this study!

I now have no interest in the results of this survey :o)
This would have to rank as the worse worded survey I have see or participated in. It really needs at least an option for Not Relevant or to follow the likert scale  with responses scored along a range.

I have left the survey link here in case anyone is interested in it, though the quality of the survey is something I would expect from a first year university student, that thinks only their age group use and understand technology.

Setup & Installation / Re: How to - Install Fonts on OS/2
« on: October 26, 2017, 04:39:31 pm »
Copy/install the fonts into x:\PSFONTS,

Then open the System folder, System Setup, and Fonts folder. If the font's do not appear in the fonts folder you can drag and drop the font file icon from the directory you placed it in (assume x:\PSFONTS) to the now open Fonts folder. Depends on the state of the folder update setting in XWorkplace setup. That is how it works with OS/2 and XWorkplace.

Internet / Re: ftp problem
« on: October 20, 2017, 03:18:59 pm »
Hi John,

Took me a little while to find the original IBM ftp client which I put back into its tcpip\bin directory.
Then had to rename the emtec FTP client to solve the next problem but when I run the IBM client it simply plonks me into the ftp> prompt.

only postscript printers are supported

If you do not have a postscript printer, install one so you can still print to file as a PDF.

Hi Dariusz,

Glad your speed has improved :)

Why do you suggest that SACK be off? I am basiing this on my understanding of that flag...the following article does a pretty nice job of explaining it's functionality => http://packetlife.net/blog/2010/jun/17/tcp-selective-acknowledgments-sack/. In short, if both the client and server support this, when an actual packet is dropped this will allow the re-transmission of ONLY the dropped data, as opposed to a full payload from the dropped point onwards until the end of the conversation. If successful this implies less data being re-sent.

SACK caused a leak in the TCP/IP stack, I assume it still does as the stack hasn't changed for many years. With it set on I was never able to get my server running longer than 2-4 weeks (from memory), with SACK off by server remains up 24/7 with the only downtime due to power failures. Before moving to were I currently reside the server was up for periods of a year with it being turned off for cleaning and swapping to the backup server which would then take over for the next year. I could/maybe change it and see if it's still relevant but its below by could be bothered threshold at present, maybe Christmas time.

Quote
Regarding the keepalive, I will change it to sync it up with my primary tcpip apps, that being Firefox and Privoxy. Specifically:
1) network.tcp.keepalive.idle_time 600

keepalive values past 120 are really only relevant for dialup, I've used 60 for probably the last 17 years to ensure sockets are never depleted on the server so set the same value on my OS/2 computer with no problems.

As Dave mentioned, ipforward is for using your computer as a router, hence why you need it on for InJoy Firewall or other routing use.

Hi Dariusz,

Manual MTU value depends on what your fibre is using but you are using mtudiscover for MTU so its fine.

You would normally use 1500 for PPPoA, 1492 for PPPoE but it's really depending on your provider. Some will only accept 1492 for PPPoA and 1452 for PPPoE as your on fibre I would expect you to use 1500 and then let mtudiscover look after it. I have no idea if your provider allows jumbo packets or not, I don't even know if OS/2 supports MTU values above 1500 either but normally smaller is better than larger, up to a point.

If you have created an inetcfg.ini file in your x:\mptn\etc directory.

Quote
If you do not have one, you can create one with "inetcfg -g all" from the command line.
Then place the line "inetcfg -s all" (minus the quotes) in your x:\mptn\bin\setup.cmd file.

then you can start by editing the inetcfg.ini file, simply copy whats below to replace the one you have.

Note you should change your keepalive and sack values to reflect what is below as well.

Quote

Hi Dariusz,

What are the contents of your x:\mptn\etc\inetcfg.ini file ?
If you do not have one, you can create one with "inetcfg -g all" from the command line.
Then place the line "inetcfg -s all" (minus the quotes) in your x:\mptn\bin\setup.cmd file.

It is likely that your TCP/IP window parameters will need to be adjusted, likely by experimenting, remember the OS/2 stack is ancient :o)

Also, what is the value of    "ETHERAND_TYPE" in your x:\ibmcom\protocol.ini file ?
I find I talk a lot quicker to windows PC's via TCPIP with the value set to D but if you change it, it must be changed on all other OS/2 computers otherwise they will nolonger talk to each other.

What do the lines  starting with PARMSTRING= under the various headings in x:\mmos2\mmpm2.ini say?

ie,
PARMSTRING=BALANCE=50,VOL=80,INPUT=LINE,OUTPUT=SPEAKER
PARMSTRING=BALANCE=50,VOL=80,INPUT=LINE,GAIN=70,OUTPUT=SPEAKER

etc
ensure the VOL= is set to something rational, especially if you have GAIN.

PS, boot in maintence mode or from another source to make changes to mmpm2.ini

Setup & Installation / Re: USB support in original CP2 CD
« on: June 16, 2017, 10:36:13 am »
FYI - depends if you want to go further than CP2. I would recommend you do.

I cant remember if usbmon was on the CP2 CD or not, to difficult for me to find in one of many boxes to check but files listed below are the last USB packages from IBM.

usb10162.zip  Last IBM Base USB package. This is the same file as usbbasic10162.zip. If you are doing a fresh USB driver install, start with this one. Includes hcimonit.exe, usbd.sys, usbehcd.sys, usbhid.sys, usbohcd.sys, usbuhcd.sys.

usbp10157.zip Last IBM Printer USB package. Includes usbmon.exe, usbprt.pdr, usbprt.sys.

usbs10162.zip Last IBM supplemental USB package. Includes usbcdrom.add, usbmon.EXE, usbmsd.add, usbwarn.EXE.

You will want usb10162.zip (20th Jan 2006)  and usbs10162.zip (20th Jan 2006).
Happy to email these to you if you like.

Applications / Re: Firefox 45.5 Install issues
« on: June 16, 2017, 05:42:50 am »
Hi Everyone,

Personally I do not use the RPM/YUM installation method, tried in the early days and it trashed my build system BUT I will defend those behind YUM/RPM for OS/2. I am happy to use the zip files from rpm.netlabs.org because I have something resembling a clue.

When someone puts a lot, or little effort into creating something for this platform they deserve to be applauded for the time and effort they have put into it. It's fine to point out bugs or problems but please do not 'trash' what others are doing. People are free to use the YUM, WarpIn, or other installable process, even a simple zipped up file of the working directory. This is called freedom of choice, which I view as a wonderful thing.

Without the work of these people many of these packages and updates would not be available in any form, so I'm just happy they are available at least in this form. It does not matter if you use YUM or not, you have access to the individual rpm or zip files.

So to everyone involved with YUM and who also is kind enough to provide the zip files as well, THANK YOU, your work is appreciated.

Setup & Installation / Re: USB support in original CP2 CD
« on: June 15, 2017, 06:52:33 pm »
Hi John,

Use hcimonit in your x:\os2\boot directory, this program will tell you what your chipset is.

The following is what I have.

Quote
[C:\os2\boot]hcimonit
You have 4 PCI USB UHCI host controller(s)
You have 1 PCI USB EHCI host controller(s)

[C:\os2\boot]

Take note of the host controller type, UH, OH, EH
EHCI is for USB v2.xx so it should come after the v1.xx drivers.

In my config.sys file I have (for the above controllers)

Quote
REM BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS     (one copy of this statement for each UHCI controller reported by HCIMONIT)
REM BASEDEV=USBOHCD.SYS     (one copy of this statement for each OHCI controller reported by HCIMONIT)
REM BASEDEV=USBEHCD.SYS     (one copy of this statement for each EHCI controller reported by HCIMONIT)
REM USBEHCD.SYS must be placed AFTER USBUHCD.SYS and USBOHCD.SYS
REM BASEDEV=USBOHCD.SYS /FS
BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS
BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS
BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS
BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS
BASEDEV=USBEHCD.SYS
BASEDEV=USBD.SYS
BASEDEV=USBHID.SYS
BASEDEV=USBMSD.ADD /FLOPPIES:1 /REMOVABLES:4
DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\USBMOUSE.SYS
DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\USBPRT.SYS
DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\USBRESMG.SYS

USB works well on your model laptop as well as R41 and R61's
Note "BASEDEV=USBMSD.ADD /FLOPPIES:1 /REMOVABLES:4"

/FLOPPIES:1   is for reading from my usb stick
/REMOVABLES:4 is for my card reader which has 4 sockets.
Defaults are probably fine but I've got those defaults there, well, just because they have been there for um, decades :)
