Title: Dell mini 1012
Post by: Jean-Yves on October 25, 2014, 07:09:50 pm
I've just been given an old Dell Inspiron mini 1012 laptop. I was wondering whether anyone had had any chance installing eCS on one of these and if so what the procedure is as it has no CD drive. Does an external CD drive work at boot time?

Many thanks for any help.

I don't know about that specific machine, but:

An external CD drive will work, IF the machine BIOS is capable of booting from it. Most modern machines have that capability, but you may need to set the BIOS boot order, and (possibly) enable "legacy" USB support, to be able to select the device from the boot list. When you get it to boot to the preboot menu, you need to make sure that all of the required USB drivers are enabled, and there is an indented check box for installing from a USB CD (forget exactly what it is called), that needs to be selected.

I should also mention that eCS 2.2 does not fit on a CD, so you need a DVD capable drive.

Thanks for the feedback Doug. I'll give it a go to see whether it's possible.

It's 1.2R though as I don't have a 2.2 license (yet)
