Applications / Re: OS/4 (technical details only)
« on: July 09, 2019, 09:25:41 pm »
I see many references to Intel processors but I have a question.  Will OS/4 work with a Ryzen 3 2200G with built in graphics and if so, what do I need to change on my OS/2 4.52 CP image to make it work (has to be from the image file as there are no USB 3 drivers and the installer doesn't work - not enough memory with 4GB for some reason).

I ask because I have a spare computer now I have upgraded my main computer to a Ryzen 5 2400G processor unit and would like to test OS/4 on the old unit.

I used to use it for Seti at Home but that stopped working 9 years ago and I haven't tried since.  It might work depending on what you want to run.

Now all we need is a vBox host for OS/2 that works as well as your additions.

Just a thought, you did eject the usb stick before you removed it?  If you didn't that will cause the chkdsk problem you are seeing.

Applications / Re: ODIN Revisited
« on: June 14, 2019, 10:15:12 pm »
I have to admit I am using the Odin install from my old Warp 4.52 CP install (I just copied the Odin directory across to my Ryzen box).

That being said I have no problem running IrfanView (picture editing) and Photofilter7 (photo editing).  I used to have a few others running but haven't tried them in over 12 months.

I have a nasty feeling that the only way you will get this working on ArcaOS is by using VirtualBox and even that can be problematic depending on your hardware (example: Vbox just runs on one of my Ryzen based computers but don't try and do anything with it) an older computer is better.

Others might have had better luck.

Sorry I missed out mentioning that.  I've had everything working here for the last 30 years that I didn't even think about it.

Applications / Re: New verssion of VLC
« on: June 08, 2019, 10:13:06 pm »
I just downloaded it and tried it.  I used the way I always have with VLC, put vlc.exe and icon in the lib dir and run it from there.  It works but does give video distortion when I close a video, this could be because I haven't changed any of the settings which I may need to do.

Now to get sound working on this Ryzen machine and I should be happy.

Sorry it doesn't appear to work for you.  I haven't tried that section yet, my main use is dividing up multi language PDFs into separate language versions for a client.

First question, is 192.168.1.84 the IP address of a different separate machine running a SMB/CIFS server?

Second question, what shows up in file manager when you click on 'network'?

Third thing, if you don't have a samba server running no matter what you are doing you are not going to find anything.  For example, on my network I have 3 NAS boxes that each run a SMB/CIFS server, I am also running samba servers on 3 of my computers.  All of those are visible to any samba client on the network.

OK, that still requires that you get the Linux networking setup correctly.

The problem will still be viewing anything on the disks of your win 10 machine. Ubuntu should be able to read the win10 drive partitions (you can do that with a live linux usb/dvd so a full install makes it easy) the problem comes from just how vbox running on linux on usb will see the SMB/CIFS server that only works when win10 is running (since Ubuntu is the operating system when running from your USB, win does not start the SMB/CIFS server therefore any samba drives will not be visible).

OK, first check what the network settings are for your Linux install Find under 'Preferences' -- 'Network', it should open showing the basic network connection information (connection speed, IPv4 address, IPv6 address, hardware address, default route, DNS) if you don't have an IPv4 address in the range supplied by the DHCP server of your router you have problems which need to be fixed first.

The 'gear' symbol, bottom right, opens a page that allows you to edit settings except for the 'Details' page.

Once you are satisfied the network settings are correct you can close the network window.

Now open either the 'Computer'  or 'Home' 'File Browser' window and click on 'Network' down arrow, then click on what is displayed, this should open a window showing all items it can read (it generally shows SMB/CIFS items as 'Windows Network', double clicking on that should show all your running SMB/CIFS servers (remember you will not see your win 10 box because it is not running while you are booted into your live linux USB stick).

I hope this helps bur remember I am using a full Linux Mint install on a real computer whereas you are using a live linux from a bootable USB.

Hi Per,

I should have mentioned this earlier.  There is a java app that will do what I understand you want.  They do it by adding a watermark that you set and there is a batch mode as well.

Have a look at http://jpdftweak.sourceforge.net

If you think it will do what you want I can send you the information necessary to make a program object that runs it using our openjava6.

Edit:
On consideration I have added the information and zip as attachments

How did you setup networking for the Linux vbox host?

If you want it to see anything on your network you have to set it as a 'bridged adapter', at least that is how I have vbox setup in a real Linux Mint machine and I can see everything on my network.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your effort.  One question though, which firefox should I use with AMD Ryzen processor?  I have found that firefox 60.7.0esr works extremely well on my Linux Mint Ryzen computer.
