Comments, Suggestions & Questions / Re: Hobbes (Files) Reoganization
« on: April 17, 2024, 05:31:53 pm »
Hi Martin,

I think you are not thinking clearly.  Not everyone knows if a windows program is 16bit or 32bit so dividing up that way makes it harder for users to find something that might be useful.

Most people using computers today don't know the internal workings, to them it is just a tool to do a job or play a game.

Hi Ivan

When you start a message saying "you are not thinking clearly", even if it is your personal opinion, it blocks the perception of your interlocutor. I haven't made any value judgment of your way of thinking or personality in the past.

I think it is not as bad as you specify it. The directories have a text description of what it includes, and it is not a critical directory as /pub/os2.

What do you suggest?,  just don't splitting it and keep everything in /pub/widows ?

Thanks Mike.

I posted the idea on the "Warp Mailinglist" and Nathan decided to take a vote on it.
- https://warp.groups.io/g/main/topic/hobbes_archive_directories/105565793?p=,,,20,0,0,0::recentpostdate/sticky,,,20,2,0,105565793

It is not doing good. 7 for "I"'s (In Favor) and  13 for "Nay"'s (Not in favor)
People voting against it are not posting it directly, just a direct email to Nathan, so I don't know the reasons. I found it odd since it is a very insignificant change.

Applications / RPM Repository: IBM OS/2 Toolkit.
« on: April 17, 2024, 12:16:01 am »
Hello

I know that some components of the IBM OS/2 Toolkit are already on the Netlabs RPM.
But I was wondering if the sc.exe compiler and nmake.exe can be included as "os2tk45" packages.

Or if David's repackage of the "IBM OS/2 Toolkit" has something updated/improved that can be of interest to be includes on the "os2tk45" packages. (https://88watts.net/dlfile.php?F=Os2Tk45-)

The dream is just to have run some "yum install" command have a complete IBM OS/2 Toolkit on your dev system.

Hi Jochen,

Got it working - didn't realize I needed to install the Doom.wad file separately (it was included in your first alpha version). It works great, sound and mouse work well, everything worked that I tried... nice work, thanks!

Regards,
Hello

Just by anyone wondering, the shareware WAD of Doom is available to the public. (You can get the WAD shareware here)

Hello Again.

I don't know what I did, but it works now. I'm using doom shareware wad, and it loads.
It works fine for the moment, but the mouse movement moves too much the camera. I need to keep testing it, it is always nice to play some doom.

Hi Jochen.

I installed it with yum, but I don't know where should I put the .wad files.
I located it on \usr\share\prboom-plus but the game list looks empty. (picture attached).

By the way: SDL2_mixer SDL2_net pcre are also needed so you can add those on the release info.

Hello

Checking the Hobbes Reorganizaton there is a little mistake I made when Nathan was recreating the site.

At some point I wanted to slipt the Windows related OS/2 software in "win16" and "win32". The idea was to put Windows programs that run in 32Bits that are related to OS/2 and that runs in OS/2 with Odin in a different place of the Windows 16bits software that  runs in Win-OS2 sessions. That's why you see on "/pub" that I have /windows and /win32, but I never finished it.

My questions is, If I should go forward with this idea. Move the Win32 items to "/win32" and rename "/windows" to "win16".

Hello

I created this ticket, about enhancing XWPKeyboard Mappings.

http://trac.netlabs.org/xworkplace/ticket/11

I think it can be interesting to grab the idea of "Folder Hotkeys" and put it on "Mappings" so different combination of keys can be assigned to some desktop actions (parameters).
But I guess it will be more interesting if more "desktop actions" can be added to XWP there, like the ones in "Windows Keys" like "Hide/show all windows", "Show windows list", "Lock up desktop", etc.

Hi David

Getting around 10fps, and can move the view by moving the mouse. ...
I think I have your same experience, with the exception of moving with the mouse. How do you know it is moving, does the image/background moves?

Do you use SNAP or Panorama. In my case I used Panorama on real hardware.

Hello.
PS: PrBoom is finished, but I have problem with the packaging. Perhaps I should simply zip it, and be done with it.
Is this a new build that haven't been posted. Just let it free to try it out :)

Hello
When you are saying "no mouse", do you mean a pointer?
The game captures the mouse and no pointer, and no crosshair is shown.
In my case, it is the behavior that you said.
The mouse does not produce any movement on the game. But I do see a white crosshair in the middle.
With ESC I can get the mouse pointer back.

This sub-thread is yet another good reason to use XWP-Lite/ANXWP: it comes preconfigured.

In XWP-Full, you need to check "XWorkplace Installation->XWorkplace Setup->Features->Mouse and Keyboard features->Enable global object hotkeys"

Thanks Rich. That was what I needed. XWP full does not enable by default the "Enable global object hotkeys". Now the hotkeys works fine.

Hi again

I got similar results on real hardware (Thinkpad T14s). It displays the same way. With the WASD keys I can not exactly notice movement, I think the hammers moves a little bit.
But it is nice to see progress.

Hi Pete

Thanks for the tip. In fact I don't have that "Hotkeys" tab in the Keyboard Setting, not on my VM nor my real HW machine. I have ArcaOS 5.1.0 with XWP 1.0.16 Full installed and I don't see that tab.

Disabling Styler did not made any difference.
I can give it a try on a experimental VM to uninstall Dynamic Icons, but I don't know how to uninstall it.

Virtualization / Re: ArcaOS in VirtualBox and mouse.
« on: April 04, 2024, 10:11:32 pm »
Hello Glenn

Can you check the size and date of your vboxmouse.sys file?

I'm using an older one here without any major issues. I have some little bug from restart to restart, but it is on what you describe.
My is:
- 1-31-20  3:06a        25,774    227 a--r  VBoxMouse.sys

I guess the latest one is:
- 1-15-24  2:26p        58,713      0 ---r  VBoxMouse.sys
But I'm not using it.

I'm using here Windows 10 host with Vbox 7.0.14. ArcaOS 5.1.0 (BIOS) as Guest.
