Title: Availability of Firefox 45.9.0 as .rpm file
Post by: Andreas Schnellbacher on October 06, 2017, 05:15:43 pm
Does somebody know when the Firefox .rpm will be made available?

Do you also have details about the location? Do I have to add a repo server to ANPM?

It's being tested, eg which packages need to be moved from exp to release.
Yes you will have to add a repo to ANPM and it'll need authentication and only available to ArcaOS users. The zip will be freely available.

Oops...LOL, I had assumed that the *.7z file listed in the 45.9 release README was exactly that...is there going to be an additional ZIP file available which follows the old directory structure and not the RPM package one?

Hi Dariusz

You only need to unzip the firefox-45.9.0 directory from the *.7z package to wherever you want if I understand the readme and the *.7z contents correctly.

Pete

The Hobbes .zip includes a file RPM_REQUIREMENTS. Most are the same versions a 45.05. I couldn't find in netlabs-rel the new versions for libc, libc-devel (0.6.6-35) and libcx (0.6.0-1), so I kept the previous one. Firefox start but in Help-About it still says 45.5!

Nope, not here, it correctly identifies itself as 45.9...check that you're running the old one by a chance.

Yup, already done...running that right now, seems a bit snappier then the debug versions...or could be just that it's the upgrade of my network speed that just makes it feel like I'm not constantly waiting for FF to do something...LOL!

No, just what ever is extracted from the RPM package. Why I don't know as it is easy to do make package as well as make install.
There isn't much difference between the packaging either.

Well I'm lost with the installation, from firefox459
In anpm does not appear neither firefox nor these packages that I am missing:
no hunspell-1.6.2-1.oc00.i686
no libc-0.6.6-35.oc00.i686
no libc-devel-0.6.6-35.oc00.i686
no libcx-0.6.0-1.oc00.i686
no os2-mpts-0.0.0-2.oc00.i386
no pthread-20151229-21.oc00.i386

Can someone tell me where I can download them?
Saludos

Hi Roberto,

no hunspell-1.6.2-1.oc00.i686
...

So Andreas already provided you with the links to download these, but for future reference, in ANPM the RPM package filenames really translate to just the package name itself, so for example:

hunspell-1.6.2-1.oc00.i686 is simply listed as hunspell

The other part of this is that the firefox specific stuff is supposed to be available in the Arcanoae repository only. This means in ANPM you will not find it under netlabs-rel, it is supposed to be available in arcanoae-rel instead and that means it will be available only to the folks who have purchased the AN Drivers & Software subscription. These at least are the plans as they have been communicated by the FF team, see => https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2/releases/tag/FIREFOX_45_9_0esr_RELEASE_OS2_GA (https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2/releases/tag/FIREFOX_45_9_0esr_RELEASE_OS2_GA).

no os2-mpts-0.0.0-2.oc00.i386
no pthread-20151229-21.oc00.i386
And here: http://rpm.netlabs.org/release/00/i386/i386/ (http://rpm.netlabs.org/release/00/i386/i386/)
This os2-mpts-0.0.0-2.oc00.i386 appears corrupt, I can not unpack it.
This pthread-20151229-21.oc00.i386 no appears.

Can you show your directory structure for where you installed FF? XUL.DLL is right in the main directory alongside FF.EXE...so how do you have your LIBPATH set?

OK, so hang on a sec...you unzipped the *.7z file into your \usr\xxx directory structure? Normally this is where the actual RPM installer (either ANPM or YUM) would toss things into...you can certainly put things there manually, but I think that is not a good idea. I prefer to let RPM deal with it's own stuff and I deal with my own by keeping the locations separate.

...and where did you put the \usr\lib\firefox... stuff? This is where the XUL.DLL exists and if you manually unzipped this over your RPM \usr\xxx directory structure then most likely firefox.exe is not finding it since that location is not in your LIBPATH.

Only a guess here, but if you install FF from the official RPM package (once it becomes available) the intent is for the XUL.DLL to go into \usr\lib. I do NOT know this for a fact, but on my system here all the RPM DLLs pretty much end up here, therefore I have no reason to believe this would be any different with FF RPM package.

Back to the topic: In the meantime Lewis added an item (https://www.arcanoae.com/october-2017-happenings/) to the AN blog.

Citing the interesting part: "More details will be provided in an upcoming post."

Apparently it will take a few more days.

Stuff needs to be moved from the netlabs exp repository to the stable repository at least.

I had Firefox 45 beta 8 running, and all I needed to do was fetch libc and libcx from Netlabs-exp, and install them with RPM. Then I rebooted.

I unzipped (p7zip) the distribution and made objects based on the new location of firefox. I did do the yum update specificed in the readme, and it fails in ways that are predictable since I put in newer libc and libcx.

It works. Printing isn't going to make people very happy, because only postscript printers are supported. My maps bug is apparently fixed, or at least better than it was.

If you do not have a postscript printer, install one so you can still print to file as a PDF.

Whwn I run Firefox.exe I'm getting: "Checking your add-ons for compatibility with this version of Firefox.
This may take a few minutes." It then returns to the command prompt.

Any Ideas as to what I'm missing or might have done wrong?

Have you tried to make a new profile by renaming the Firefox to ex Firefox_old.

Then see  if that works for you.

Profile is in c:\home\mozilla\firefox per default.

Maybe disable some addons that you might have from the other installed Firefox.

Thanks for the reply Rene, It turns out , I've got libc-0.6.6-32 & libc-0.6.6-devel-32 installed rather than the "35" updates. I've downloaded the .rpm's for libc "35" updates but yum doesn't want to update them -- guess I'm stuck till arcanoae-rel makes them available.   But I'll try what you suggested in the meantime.

I do not know if you can use this trp file, which I attach. But keep in mind that I have forced it to generate it, changing it in the file dependentlibs.list , xul.dll changed to #xul.dll To try to know where it breaks
