Can you ping 192.168.56.1  In other words is that a valid IP address?

Hi Lars,

A bit off topic but are you thinking of producing a USB 3 driver sometime?

Sorry the unix structure does not apply in OS/2  we only have r h s a.

That being said , what are you trying to do?

Hi Dariusz,

You have me scratching my head with your list of support packages.

What is heimdal and what does it do?

I checked my ArcaOS test bed and while it has a directory of that name said dir is empty so no help there.  Do I need it since my CIFS/SMB access to all my NAS boxes is good?

It sounds as if your win 10 is the problem.  For supposed security reasons win 10 CIFS/SMB defaults to version 2 and I think that our CIFS/SMB is version 1.  We have been seeing a lot of problems on the D-Link NAS forums where people with win 10 find they are unable to connect to the NAS CIFS/SMB because the NAS uses the 'old' v1 and win uses the 'new' v2.  There should be a setting in win10 that allows you to set CIFS/SMB back to v1.

Internet / Re: Kompozer and/or Nvu
« on: May 26, 2019, 01:47:39 pm »
Thanks everyone.  I have Nvu up and running, just pulled the DLLs from my NAS storage (I was concerned that they might clash withthe DLLs  for the nixi ports.

Dave.  Since there is nothing that gives the version of Kompozer all I can say that all the files are dated 28/08/2012.  If you could rebuild it that would be great or if Composer was a stand alone program and is newer that might be better.

Again thanks everyone.

Internet / Kompozer and/or Nvu
« on: May 26, 2019, 12:27:57 am »
I just went to use Kompozer on my ArcaOS machine and all I get is a totally blank window, just the frame and header.  Nothing appears in POPUPLOG.OS2.

I then tried Nvu and it complained of a missing LIBC05.dll and PMDll shows that GCC322.dll is also required

Now, any ideas about getting Kompozer to run, or is that impossible?
The other thing, is it safe to add the two missing dlls for Nvu and if so where would they go?

Hardware / Re: Warpstock Europe

Thank you Roderick.

It is indeed good news that ArcaOS can boot with direct UEFI active, hopefully that will also be a workround for using a DVD to boot from (usual problem with the Ryzen chipset is that when it tries to unpack the the disks at the start a message pops up saying there isn't enough memory when there is 4GB available.

My comment regarding Intel chipsets was prompted from past observations that Intel gets drivers first and if they work with AMD chipsets then ok.

A great pity I was unable to attend, the prior engagement was arranged last year, I might have been able to ask specific questions to get clearer answers.

Again, thank you for taking the time to reply.

I suppose that someone has to ask and it might as well be me since I was unable to attend because of a prior engagement.

Were there any earth shattering revelations at Warpstock Europe?  It appears that there was some good news but...

Reading the presentations of the video (no sound here) I see that USB 3.0/3.1 is no closer to being available. the fact there are problems with Intel chipsets it doesn't bode well for AMD Ryzen chipsets and it does make me wonder what chipsets they are testing on (is there even a Ryzen chipset in the mix?).

I know I appear to have a one track mind regarding USB 3.0/3.1 but, even though I am retired I still think about my old clients and the fact that they are considering upgrading some of their computers with new AMD units that require the USB 3.x drivers for such things as keyboards and trackballs (example: Gigabyte B450M Ds3h that has a serial port or the MSI B450M Bazooka that has both parallel and serial ports).  Both of those examples are ideal for connecting to the machines using existing interface equipment.

Hi Mathias,

A good machine as far as I'm concerned is one that does what it is setup to do without problems.  So your box is a little old but it did the job very successfully apparently.  I have an Acer Aspire T180 from wayback that was my main home OS/2 machine until the end of last year when my home built Ryzen box took over.

I see that Intel are having more problems with their processors again - hyperthreading this time, so I'm happy to have all AMD based machines.
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/05/14/intel_sidechannel_vulnerability/

Yes, the VIA USB 2 cards are now a 'hunt for on ebay' item and some of the USB 2 cards, while providing USB 2 are actually based on USB 3.0 chipsets.  Hopefully the USB 3.0 for OS/2 and ArcaOS will arrive soon as we were told about it 2 years ago.

Memory for the Ryzen appears to be 64GB although I only have my boxes fitted with 8 GB.

Hi Mathias,

That sounds like a rather nice machine, although I'm not well versed in Intel processors - all AMD here.  I am not surprised about the ASMedia SATA card working because those chips are used by the Ryzen chipset and since I have several Ryzen based machines working with only one problem - USB 3.0 - which means that I have to use a VIA USB 2 PCIe1 card for any USB needs.

The fact you made an image after you got it installed is good.  I had to do that to bypass problems with the ArcaOS installer on all the Ryzen boards I have.

Hi Mathias,

It sounds as if you had fun.  Since this is an OS/2 site maybe you could give us the information about which modern machine you were using and how well it performed.

Applications / Re: Discussion about RPM/YUM and Libcn
« on: May 08, 2019, 10:51:09 pm »
Hi Dave,
Quote
The problem with including any version of libc, including LIBCN is that in a year, after LIBCN has been updated, a user might download your package and downgrade LIBCN and break other packages that depend on new functionality

The converse is also possible with the newer version breaking older programs - yes I know that those producing the new version can't test it against every program that uses it.  That is why I have always tried to put everything a program needs to run in the directory of the program  and run everything from there.

One possible workround would be to go the whole hog and use a program that makes a snapshot of the OS just as they do in Linux Mint, then if anything goes wrong everything can be restored to the previous working state.

Hi Dave,

Have you looked at the Firefox Unbranded version: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Add-ons/Extension_Signing#Unbranded_Builds  which was mentioned this morning after the Mozilla cockup of certificates for addons for FF 60 and up (the Linux version looks interesting).

Programming / Re: ODIN - loading DLLs

Doug and Pete,

Thanks, your information got me thinking of alternative ways to get the results.  The original program has been taken over by another developer and is well on the way to being a universal application working on Windows, Linux and OS X, apparently it also runs on a  Raspberry Pi. The output is to a webserver and the latest version (May 1st) now works on my Ryzen based Linux Mint box but requires installing Mono to get the display of the gauges (they don't display on OS/2 / ArcaOS).
