Version 1.002 is now available (Hobbes incoming), which hopefully fixes this issue.

Networking / Re: Cannot start peer services

This usually means a network connectivity or configuration problem.

Try looking at \IBMCOM\LANTRAN.LOG and/or the output of 'net error' for clues.

Actually, I have to stand corrected.  There seems to be a serious problem in the auto-generated hinting in Workplace Sans Bold.  It only manifests on a couple of sizes (mainly 13 & 14 ppm), which happen to be the ones which are overridden by the bitmaps in the bitmapped versions.  It also didn't show up on my usual test setup because those sizes don't get used by Mozilla on my system.

This evidently crept in due to a combination of switching from TypeTool 3 to FontLab Studio 5, and trying to add more intelligent hinting parameters.  It seems to work fine in the regular weight, but the bold weight just gets messed up.  Since I doubt I can fix the hinting, I think I'll simply leave the next releases un-hinted (as older versions, IIRC including 0.91, used to be).

So the font probably is getting loaded, it's just that the hinting is causing badly mangled rendering at those sizes.

General Discussion / Re: Setting right a WinOS/2 printer
« on: May 29, 2016, 05:53:24 am »
It could be a priority conflict between Powerpoint's job settings and the default Win-OS/2 printer object settings.

Make sure the Win-OS/2 printer in Control Panel -> Printers is set to Landscape, and the job properties in Powerpoint (not sure where those are kept in the Win16 version) are also set to Landscape.

The problem is evidently in the rendering of Workplace Sans Bold.  In the second screenshot, it appears as though Firefox is actually drawing Workplace Sans Regular and attempting to 'fake bold' it through simulation.  I can only guess that it's doing this because mzfntcfgft is unable to find or load the actual Workplace Sans Bold font.

Comparative screen shots would help to understand what exactly you are seeing and (possibly) why.

You say you downloaded both the bitmapped and non bitmapped versions.  Which did you install? They can't both be installed (well, not successfully anyway).

Your reaction certainly suggests you have the non bitmapped versions installed.  Did you have the bitmapped versions installed before?

I'm not sure why you see this answer as rude.  In my experience, it's simply the most honest answer a developer can give.  Certainly I don't think I know any developer who means to be rude or 'sassy' by saying this.

Maybe it has something to do with the context, though...

Setup & Installation / Re: Minimal config.sys

Why do you need basedev=ibmint13.i13? Unless you have a disk controller that isn't supported by any OS/2 driver, it's useless.

Also, you may need EARLYMEMINIT=TRUE.

I see you are not including any CD-ROM or USB support, but I assume that's intentional on your part.

To address the original question, the way removable media is implemented on OS/2, unmounting one partition on the device causes all of them to be unmounted.  The message you are getting is from the USB XCenter widget, which I never use and is rather weird in my experience.  I suspect the warning message in this case is bogus.  If you look at your Drives folder after ejecting T:, it's probably that both T: and X: have disappeared.  If that's not the case, then something very odd is happening.

Setup & Installation / Re: Installing Boot Manager on second disk
« on: May 10, 2016, 07:04:01 am »
Boot Manager does support being on disk 2.  However, for some reason the LVM program from IBM doesn't provide a way of putting it there, even though the LVM engine (API) itself does.

You could try my incomplete LVMGUI replacement... It's only half-finished, but I think installing Boot Manager is one of the things I actually implemented.  (It's been a few years so I don't remember clearly.)
http://www.altsan.org/os2/toolkits/lvm/lvmpm_bin.zip
The idea is that you select the second disk in the bottom panel, then choose System->Boot Manager->Install.

No promises that it will work, but if you have no other options you can try it. :)

Actually, since (if I read correctly) you are using the old volume's drive letter on the new volume, this should work fine - as long as you write the correct boot sector with bootable JFS on the new partition.  (Simply formatting it isn't necessarily enough.)  I believe the SYSINSTX command is what you need.

Setup & Installation / Re: Java installation
« on: April 28, 2016, 02:18:07 pm »
I've never specifically installed Java on OS/2, it always somehow got installed automagically when installing Netscape...

Now, when I want to install TCPAPPS, I'm told I can only do this through Java.

I don't know why Netscape hasn't installed Java. Can anyone tell me how to do it manually?

Java is not installed as part of Netscape.  Perhaps you're thinking of the fact that the full SDK version of Java 1.1 and/or 1.3 used Netscape for its guided install.

Since WSeB, Java 1.1.8 is installed along with the OS as part of the FIBASE component, assuming you select the right options.  That's the version that TCPAPPS works with best.

You can install later by running CLIFI /A:T to create an Install object, then load the install data using "response file -> read" from its context menu and selecting FIBASE.RSP from \OS2\INSTALL.  Then double click the object, deselect everything except the Java items, and choose Install.  It will go to \JAVA11 on the boot drive (it's possible to change that, but it requires rather tricky advanced techniques).

General Discussion / Re: Difference between OS/2 and eCS
« on: April 19, 2016, 11:21:33 am »
You must have kernel 1.04a or later to use ACPI.  You can get this by obtaining smp20050811.zip (SMP kernel) from various places, including os2site.com (upgrades section, kernel directory).

If you don't use eCS 2.x, I recommend installing the last FixPak for whatever OS/2 4.x version you have before you update the kernel.  That's FixPak 5 for MCP/ACP, FixPak 3 for WSeB, or FixPak 15 (17 with an IBM support contract) for Warp 4.

NOTE: If you use an SMP kernel, you must also install the SMP version of DOSCALL1.DLL (which is included in the ACPI WarpIN package).

Internet / Re: FTPD configuration
« on: April 19, 2016, 11:07:49 am »
Use the TCP/IP configuration notebook, "Security" page, to configure users and set permissions.

  • Create a user using 'Add'
  • Enable FTP access for that using the 'Configure' button under 'FTPD'. Choose what directories they have access to and what permissions, etc.
Also make sure FTPD is started ("Autostart" page), unless you prefer to start it manually yourself of course.

It'll tell you to reboot after saving the changes, although if it didn't change CONFIG.SYS then you only really need to restart the FTPD process.

Networking / Re: Installing NFS
« on: April 16, 2016, 06:44:14 pm »
This is a Feature Install package, so it might require Netscape 4.61 to install.

Alternatively, you could try a manual object-based install:
  • Run "CLIFI /A:T" from a command line to create an empty Install Object on the desktop
  • Right-click the Install Object, choose Response file -> Read and select TCPINST.RSP from the \cid\server\tcpapps\install directory.
  • Open the newly-renamed TCPINST object and delelect everything except NFSIcon and Uinstal.
  • Click Install and cross your fingers.

This will put all the files on your boot drive.  If you need to change the target directory a few other steps are needed.  You may also find your desktop gets rearranged.  I have not tested this so be warned.
