I had an issue on an Optiplex 745 with ArcaOS not auto-detecting the broadcom adapter but working fine if I manually selected the device. I might suggest reinstalling ArcaOS from scratch and selecting the Broadcom 57 driver without installing the old ecs driver at all (there's a chance a file got overwritten with an incompatible version).

Thanks Bill! That did it. Fresh install, manually selecting Broadcom driver during install, and I now I have a network connection.

My life can continue on now :)

Thanks!!

I am trying to setup my "backup" Thinkpad T43 (1875) with ArcaOS. I already installed it on my primary T43 (a newer model) and it is working fine.

The problem is with the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit ethernet adapter. It is not a real pressing problem, since this is a backup laptop and otherwise it sits collecting dust.

This laptop did have eCS 1.2 installed with ethernet working fine using a Broadcom B57 driver that I found specifically for Thinkpads. And after having issues with the Arca install, I reinstalled eCS 1.2 to make sure the adapter was still working and it does work fine.

Arca initial install does not find a network adapter at all. After the install was finished, I installed the driver I used with eCS. After that boot up would have a long pause after loading the driver, then would state that there was an "Invalid IRQ value - check IRQ in BIOS" (which i cannot find).

If I try to use the B57 driver included in Acra, it boots up fine, but with DHCP or assigned IP/Route/DNS, there is no connection. ping attempts result in "sendto: No route to host".

ifconfig lan0
LAN0: flags:3c2a<BROADCAST,LOOPBACK,NOTRAILERS,DEFMTU,MULTICAST,BRIDGE,SNAP>

Exact same setup in eCS works fine. I can't figure this one out.

Also on another T43, slightly newer, same network adapter works fine. So it could be an issue with the laptop, but why would it work fine under eCS, but not ArcaOS?

If anyone is interested, there is an OS/2 group on Facebook - it's been there awhile, but with the release of AcraOS, traffic has picked up a bit.

Sorry about that, Kevin. I guess we should add some stuff to our wiki on how to do cool stuff on the ArcaOS desktop!

Thanks for the detailed reply Lewis, I look forward to playing with these new options. And also I am looking forward to the youtube video.

Thanks for the great support!

I noticed the screenshots that Arca Noae posted and there is 2 that I haven't figured out how to do.

The 5th one says "Open a drive or folder object in a split view as a mini-file manager." I've messed with folder view settings and can't seem to recreate the split view.

Also the 6th one shows thumbnails. I haven't figured out how to do that as well.

I'll admit, I haven't spent a lot of time trying to duplicate those features, but I did give it a go and didn't find anything obvious.

Don't think so. Guess they are currently setting up the backend which will process the thousands and millions of orders ;-)

Btw. the connection to them seems to be quite busy :-)

It must be the flood of orders. As the www.arcanoae.com appears to be down right now. I keep getting a timeout response.  :o

I saw the announcement early this morning and was able to get in and get it ordered (and downloaded), but the server(s) were already getting hit hard and it was a very slow processes. That was 6am CST.

Already have it installed on a laptop and playing around with it (while I am working of course).

Once I get ArcaOS5, I'll try out XWorkPlace for a bit and see if it is better than OD2, if not I can install OD2 and go with that.

I think you will find that most of the OD2 package has been made outdated by the features of XWorkPlace and other utilities shipped with eCS and presumably ArcaOS, but since OD can be installed in a modular fashion you can install just the utilities you need from the package and skip parts like Object Center that can clash with XWP.

That is true, I usually don't install everything. Mainly Control Center and Tab Launchpad. But I am looking forward to trying out XWorkPlace.

Having said that, the last time I installed it I only found Keyboard Launchpad and Object Packager to be worthy of an install, all other enhancements having better more modern replacements and in reality I think I have not seen any real use even of those two in years. Object Advisor remains interesting but I never figured out a user case for it.

I think I mainly still use it for nostalgia purposes. That is what I used when I was running my BBS back in the 90s and when I set it all back up, I was going for that retro feel. But, if there is something better, I would love to check it out.

Just patiently waiting for ArcaOS5 to be released :)

I know nothing about Object Desktop. I need to ask what you mean by "multiple desktop manager". If you mean XPager, yes it is part of XWorkplace, so it is included. If that is compatible with Object Desktop, it should be okay. If not, then you have the choice to leave out XWorkplace, although that will eliminate some of the nice things.

Thanks for the reply. I figured the desktop manager was Xpager, I remember using XWorkPlace, but soon replaced it with Object Desktop (which wasn't free, but is really good). https://www.stardock.com/products/od20/preview/whatsnew.htm

Once I get ArcaOS5, I'll try out XWorkPlace for a bit and see if it is better than OD2, if not I can install OD2 and go with that.

I just saw the basic install screenshot of ArcaOS5 and noticed the multiple desktop manager. Will Object Desktop 2.0 still run on ArcaOS? I currently have it on my eCS 1.2MR install.

Anxiously waiting the release, even picked up another Thinkpad T43 to put it on.

Thanks,

Kev
