Hardware / Re: UVC Webcam Support for OS/2 in an SMP environment
« on: September 30, 2016, 03:48:20 pm »
Perhaps \OS2\DLL\USBCALLS.DLL has not been replaced because it was locked? Perhaps wrong version \ECS\DLL\USBCALLS.DLL still exists?

Well, that looks like a possibility. I found USBCALLS.DLL, from 2014, in the RPM/YUM directory structure (which is the one that will be used). I am not too sure why it is there, the package that is supposed to do that isn't installed (but I may have installed it, and uninstalled it, at one time). After quickly removing it, and rebooting, I still have the same problem. I did verify that there is only one copy, from Aug 30, in \OS2\DLL.

I will have to try to figure it out later.

Thanks...

If you use ANPM to install a new RPM/YUM (after removing the current one, including /etc /usr AND /var) you won't have the problem, but you are starting over so you do need to install everything that you will need.

Don't worry about PROCDUMP, yet.

How did you install RPM/YUM? If it was with eCS 2.2b2, there is a bad module that prevents updating. Carefully follow the directions at: https://www.arcanoae.com/wiki/anpm/non-updated-systems/ to see if something there helps.

First, thanks for your work. It is much appreciated.

Now, I have a problem, that I can't seem to get a handle on. At one time (months ago), WebSee10.zip was working, with the Ricoh camera in my Lenovo ThinkPad L530. I don't remember the USB driver version, but I do remember complaining to Arca Noae, that websee did not work with whatever was the current USB driver stack at the time. They fixed the problem, but I don't remember if I ever tried it with the 11.14 version (I think I did).

Before trying the new websee, I tried the old one, and all I get with uvcview.exe, and weblook, is a flash of an opening window, and it closes. No error messages, that I can find. PMDLL indicates that all DLLs are present. USBDOCK shows the camera, and the camera works in windows (of course). Webview opens a black window.

Okay, so I tried Lars' 10.207 driver. It is the same, so I tried your updated USBEHCD.SYS. No change.

Then, I tried WebSee11.zip, and it does the same thing.

It appears that something may be missing. Any suggestions?

The interesting thing is I tried installing the latest R8169 driver from Arca Noae and the system crashed on reboot. When I replaced the R8169.OS2 with the one from my client the system booted OK and appeared to work ok, except for not allowing logons to the domain.

The R8169 driver is not the driver that will work. You need to use the MMRE driver.

The not so good news: The QC5000 system also boots (with both keyboard and mouse working), but networking is flaky. If you ping another local system, you get 15-20% dropped packets, and some take 2-3 seconds to get through. According to acpistat the systems runs in VW-mode, meaning nearly everything is on one shared (low) IRQ. I guess that could be the cause of the network drop-outs?

IRQ usage, or VW mode, is not likely to cause network drop-out problems, although I have never seen a case where ACPI would drop back to VW mode.

I had a problem using a plug in PCI card, with a Realtek 8169 on it, when using the R8169 driver. It would work fine, for about a minute, then it got really slow. PING dropped packets, and if you looked at the data that was returned, the packets were returned out of order. The latest MMRE driver fixed the problem, for me.

That driver works with a very limited number of older Realtek NICs. You probably need the newest MMRE driver from Arca Noae to have any chance of making it work properly. https://www.arcanoae.com/about/

Hardware / Re: OS/2 Warp Motherboard - CNC machine
« on: September 23, 2016, 05:26:05 pm »
Just a WAG, but older versions of OS/2 (before the last couple of updates to warp 3, as I recall) require a BIOS setting to be set ON. It is something about using OS/2, if it exists.. Newer versions of OS/2 need that setting to be OFF. If the setting is not there, don't worry about it.

Applications / Re: Two Programs with the Same File Association
« on: September 11, 2016, 09:16:10 pm »
Hi

This question may be basic but I forgot how to do it.
I have two programs that can open icon files, PMView and Icon Editor.

When you doble click the file it opens PMView by default.
How do I change it to open Icon Editor by default? Is there a way to do it without removing the PMView ICO association?

Regards

There are a number of things that affect this. First, the easy way to select a program that is not default, is to RMB on the file icon, then, if there is one, or more, associations, there will be a list when you click on the small arrow beside Open As. Pick the program that you want to use. The default (if any) will have a mark beside it (sometimes, there is no mark, but you can select from the program list).

You can change the default by going to Properties-> Menu, and play with that stuff, but I think it only affects the file that you are working with, and that can become very confusing if you forget what you did, and that file does something different than what other files do.

To globally change the order, you need to remove, and/or add, associations in the program icon properties. The last one that you set will be last in the list of the file menu, and the rest move up until they are at the top, and they are set as default (unless some other method is used to change the default action - I haven't figured out how that is done).

Okay, now switch to Turbo folders, and the whole thing changes. I played with that for a few hours, a few months ago, but I could find no way to change the default program selection (and it seems that it is always wrong  :-[ ). That could be an operator fault, but I did try everything that looked like it might work. It didn't so I turned off Turbo folders, and haven't got back to it, yet.

Applications / Re: FF and TB not running at the same time.

Looking in ABOUT:CONFIG, I found "browser. cache. memory. enable", and set it to false. Firefox seems to be much more stable, although it consistently uses more upper shared memory (for some unknown reason, but it doesn't seem to cause a problem). Closing, and opening, Firefox does consistently use more lower shared memory, but it is not enough to cause a problem, for a couple of days. If I watch lower shared memory usage, and reboot when it gets below 100 meg, my system seems to be pretty stable.

After installation the machine rebooted and I then get 2 os/2 messages blinking at the top left hand corner with a blinking underbar on the line below

Hmmm. Just a WAG, but did you install Warp3 starting with diskettes? Did you remove the last diskette before it tried to boot? You didn't say what the two messages were, but it is likely telling you that the diskette is not bootable. Remove the diskette, and it will boot from the hard  disk.

That probably explains a lot of it. It doesn't matter if it uses upper shared memory (I still had more than 1.5 GB left), but it would be instant death if it ever tried that with lower shared memory, and didn't do the proper checking. Even more likely to cause a problem, would be a second program trying to allocate more lower shared memory, without checking to see if it is really available.

None of FF has been marked to load high (at least not by me). The usage seems to have been very sudden, and for no reason, that I know about.

As I said, "very strange". At least it didn't crash.

Today, Theseus shows Firefox using 1222.152 MB of space, and Above512Watch says I still have 154752 KB of lower shared memory available. It also shows that something has used about 30 MB of upper shared memory space, that wasn't used earlier.

Very strange.

I don't have that NIC but have you tried Arca Noae Multimac drivers?. The E1000E driver has support for some 8257x but it does not specify the 82579.
https://www.arcanoae.com/wiki/multimac/

I don't have that NIC either, but the E1000B driver (in the same package) is likely to work better than the E1000E driver.
