The newest REXX IDE is 30 years old.

VX-Rexx, VisProRexx

I don't know how to get VX-REXX.

Comments, Suggestions & Questions / Re: Hobbes (Files) Reoganization
« on: March 24, 2024, 02:28:15 am »
I hope this is the right thread for this topic.

Hobbes used to have loaddf.zip which had both LOADDSKF.EXE and SAVEDSKF.EXE

Now HobbesArchive has Loaddskf_1-16.zip which claims to have both, but contains only LOADDSKF.EXE

General Discussion / Re: MS os/2 2.0 kernel
« on: March 22, 2024, 02:34:41 pm »
As I remember the transition, the 2.0 kernel did everything the 1.3 kernel did. So, they pretty much have to be the same kernel, with the 32-bit stuff added on for the 2.0 version.

HobbesArchive.com is down for a while, so does anyone remember the URL for the mirrors of HobbesArchive.com?

Utilities / Re: vncserver setup
« on: February 29, 2024, 03:27:13 pm »
1. You need RPM/YUM. Type command:

yum install libc libgcc1 openssl zlib pthread libjpeg libpng

or use Arca Noae Package Manager to install these packages.

Setup & Installation / Re: DB2 v. 6.1 / Java

I think DB2 6.1 requires Java 1.1.8 and also IBM File and Print.

Networking / Re: Updated Samba Client
« on: February 03, 2024, 03:26:45 pm »
Network browsing is still not working, same as before.

Clarifying - is this with Arcamapper from 5.0 or 5.1? They use quite different approaches...

This is with ArcaOS 5.1. I didn't think to try the old ArcaMapper. I'll set one up and try it...

The old ArcaMapper is much like the new. Browsing fails with this message "Connecting to Magnesium failed (Error NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL)

I see the workgroup and computers, but not the shares. How do you enable browsing for a user?

I didn't detect any regressions on the server side. The latest build of smbd, samba-4.19.4-os2-20240202.zip, shares files here, just like the previous build. Network browsing is still not working, same as before.

With those two changes, I am now able to see files on the Samba Server v 4.19 from ArcaMapper on an ArcaOS 5.1 machine. I didn't do any stress or capability test yet. Thanks David, and thanks, Paul.

Code: [Select]
        server min protocol = NT1
        ntlm auth = Yes

Curiously, I cannot see those same shares in the ArcaMapper Network Browser. I added Workgroup to my smb.conf, and now I can see the machine, but not the shares. When I try to refresh the list of shares in the Network browser, the following lines appear in smb.log..192.168.46.22

Code: [Select]

I think my old tdb files may have been one problem solved. Now smbpasswd behaves better, but with a few messages. I'm still having some problems connecting,  though.

Code: [Select]
These are the results of smbpasswd test after deleting the private directory

I started the servers, and no errors. I can't quite browswe from my other computer with arcamapper. A domain icon appears with my hostname, but no machines or shares.

If I try to connect, I get the following added to log\log.smbd..192.168.46.22

[2024/01/28 07:28:54.985000,  2] ../../libcli/auth/ntlm_check.c:480(ntlm_password_check)

There must be something I can add to smb.conf to permit less secure connections...

With the various command files changed to forward slashes "/" in smb.conf, smbpasawd is now running once, then after that trapping.

After a few times trapping, smbpasswd ran without trapping, but smb, nmb and winbind all crash when started.

Programming / IBM APL2 for OS/2
« on: January 26, 2024, 01:48:27 am »
I recently obtained a copy of IBM APL2 for OS/2

The previous owner gave me a load of books, magazines and notes on APL. (see photos)

If any APL enthusiast wants these, let me know. I'm in the Santa Cruz, California.
