General Discussion / Re: Trying to get the forums back.

Ah! memories. I have (still) an IMSAI which I  modified several times. My original 2 MHz MPUA 8080 CPU card was replaced by a 3 MHz MPUB cpu card. I then replaced the 8085 on that card with a wirewrap card I built with an NSC800 running at 4 MHz. This also needed some inverters to get polarities right and some logic to add wait states to the boot and monitor ROM memory space. But now I could run Z-80 code. Whoopee!

There is also a one Megabyte ramdisk, another large card with battery backup. Unless I lose power for more than eight hours it is still there... dynamic ram. Who could afford static RAM?

This is several years earlier than the previous computers mentioned.

Yet one more that could log in... after I tracked down my active password.

Don't forget Visual Basic for DOS. I have a copy. It uses characters to create radio buttons etc.

Another option that does hex (and octal) is HPcalc 41C, which is a non-programmable HP41-C with extensions.

Of course that means RPN and all of its advantages... unless you never learned.  ;)

I have the same video card. To get a (full screen) Windows session it is also necessary to have as the "path and filename" in the properties and the session be a full screen DOS session. The regular Windows sessions don't work, and of course you can't have a windowed Windows session by any means.

Applications / Re: Do you really need DOS/WIN16 Support?

I regularly use:
OrCAD, DOS, Schematic capture and PCB layout software
AutoCAD LT, Win 3.1, 2D mechanical CAD and printing of OrCAD output
CAM350, Win 3.1, Gerber file viewer, statistics and editor
IAR assembler and C compiler for 8051, DOS

and occasionally
NLREG, DOS, Non-linear regression analysis. Really useful for finding correlations in data (and throwing out irrelevancies).

I also have several MIDI programs I would love to be able to use again, but...

Hello Roderick,

As I sit here at my computer I have a Roland JV-2080 64 voice synthesizer in front of me. And there is no way to talk to it. Just the ability to record and play from the computer would be great. I have a few midi programs somewhere but I might have to get a floppy drive up and running to read them. Midi has been rather forgotten on OS/2 for a long time.

Using an ad and malware blocking "hosts" file is quite useful, and free. has the info. The file, which is plain text, is at
Just rename "x:\mptn\etc\hosts" to "hosts.bak" or such, where "x" is your boot partition, and unzip the downloaded file in the same directory. It makes for a much calmer and safer browsing experience.

If you have added any lines to your hosts file you will have to add them to the replacement file. Most have never touched the file and need do nothing.

That was it. I have no idea what set it to off or why, but thanks.

Ok, it's a 4 bytes per pixel mode. I still don't have a clue why it disables Dive. But that's normal enough.

Now that's interesting... so I typed in
Firefox 2>&1 | tee firefox.log
While running Firefox 31.8.0 in 16 million colors and 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz, ATI Radeon X850 series using SNAP.
And got..

VMI_CMD_SETPTR - rc= 0  ulStatus= 1
Video driver is SNAP - mouse ptr will not be hidden
_init_dive:  _load_dive() succeeded
_init_dive:  hDive= 1  scrn= 0x2a50000  format= BGR4
Changing DIVE from enabled to disabled - 'layers.acceleration.disabled' is TRUE

Isn't BGR4 a four bits per pixel mode?

Applications / Re: Problems with Tame

The other USB DLLs in the update worked fine. It was only those two from the original install of Tame that were needed.

I left a note in my Tame directory to myself.
Tame with my scanner (Scanjet 5200c) connected via USB does not work unless
the usbresmg.sys and usbcalls.dll that came with Tame are used.

Usbresmg.sys goes in x:\os2\boot and usbcalls.dll in x:\os2\dll. Where
x is the boot partition.
Perhaps you have the same problem. Tame had stopped working after I updated my USB DLLs.

Games / Re: Quake/2 now broken???

Thanks for the info. I'm not using DOS for games. I have an electronic CAD program which has drivers for up to 1920x1080. Yes, real DOS drivers. There are people who like it as much as many of us like OS/2-eComStation so volunteers have written new drivers. They have also written Win32 drivers.

I will try DosBox. But isn't it limited to VGA?

The SNAP driver for the ATI X850 XT never had the DOS and WIN3 support finished. I believe it was one of the last cards worked on before development ceased. I have the same card and could get full screen DOS, but not windowed, and no WIN3 at all.

Can you get windowed DOS or WIN3 either full screen or windowed? If so, I would be interested how. If not, that could be your problem.
