Internet / Re: Firefox 45.9.0 & Youtube
« on: October 14, 2017, 02:53:02 am »
I've been seeing this issue with Seamonkey.
The original video in the ticket says I can't play it due to geography.
The one Darius put in:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAigQuoCfD0&feature=youtu.be
does show the problem in seamonkey but oddly works in Firefox 45.9.0.
I just checked some others that I had seen were/are not working in Seamonkey and worked in Firefox too.  I just checked and in both cases it is the VP9/opus.

WarpIN is very popular installer for warp-like OS-ses.

Many software developers distribute their products in WarpIN format. But many developers do not use all the features of the installer, as well as being make a errors in the descriptions of the packages. As an example I will give diff of wis script of the lSwitcher(v2.8.1) archive: See diff

Hardcoded paths(to \ECS\... of course), errors in "<PCK>"'s, don't use "<GROUP>" for localisations and what annoying me biggest ... XWorkplace X(e)Center plugin does not distribute as separate package. They offer to put it the hands  :-\ , as in the good old days, when the software was distributed in ZIP format.

No, it is not our method! ;) So, on court of the community proposed a project "WarpIN-Scripts-and-tools".
In this, active development package:

In plans:
  • WPI distribution of QS LDR(with backup feature of original IBM OS2LDR), and script for repack developer's zip distrib.
  • WPI distribution of OS/4 "Phoenix" kernels(with the function of automatic addition of the installed kernel to the boot menu and the ability to simultaneously install different versions of the kernels, and script for repack developer's zip of course).
  • Continue adding to the database corrected WIS scripts of popular products. If you have such products, you can send me their scripts by e-mail (oxyd76 (at) gmail (dot) com) (and a direct link to download wpi of course!) with Subject: WarpIN Or join me on the GitHub! WarpIN it's easy! ;-)

Disqus?

The diff is incomplete as it stands, it checks for eCS but not ArcaOS but a ticket in the lswitcher trac:
http://trac.netlabs.org/lswitcher/report/1
would go a long way towards getting the project updated.
Your project to help build WPIs is admirable.  The dates in github show 11 months old.  lswitcher 2.9 will probably be released in the not too distant future, but not sure if there will be time to incorporate changes before the release or not for the wpi at this point.

While all versions of OS/2 in use can use WarpIn, not all of them can use the YUM/Repository feature that is so far exclusive to ArcaOS, which itself will still support WarpIn just fine.

A point of clarification... Yum repository feature is far from exclusive to ArcaOS.  Arca Noae does have subscription only repositories but Netlabs hosts the original repositories which contains most of the applications that are distributed via rpm/yum for OS/2 and the Arca Noae channels being much narrower in scope.  Arca Noae also has open repositories as well which are available without subscription.
There are advantages and disadvantages to both Warpin and rpm/yum.  Though, rpm/yum does offer a way to take on the advantages of Warpin because it is possible to wrap a wpi into an rpm so that the warpin package is installed by yum/rpm.   As you state, Warpin does work in ArcaOS, in fact Arca Noae is working on adding Warpin support into ANPM (the GUI for yum) with the intent to eventually have the ability to pull a wpi from a repository.

Hi Robert

I just downloaded VAB from the url you supplied.

I have only installed the client and can state that it runs on ArcaOS so would expect it to run on ecS2.1 - will try to install to eCS2.1 later to test.

Pete

It most likely "upgraded" your SOM for you.  I discovered this when my Lucide starting crashing when trying to open PDFs.

« on: September 22, 2017, 02:24:56 am »
Hi

@Andy
Same build of Seamonkey and the crashes are repeatable.

The only difference I can see between Firefox and Seamonkey is that Firefox beeps when it crashes, Seamonkey does not and no trp file is generated.

@Dave
Seamonkey has only been able to use Google Maps in "Lite Mode" for a long time. Doubt if it is related to bandwidth, more likely that Seamonkey is an "unsupported browser" ie it is not Chrome or IE.

Regards

Pete

We don't have to guess:
https://support.google.com/maps/answer/3096703
It checks:
browser
OS
graphics card

We will fail the latter two (even if you have an otherwise supported graphics card, the driver would not be reported as compatible as it is looking for 3D).

Hi Andy
Seamonkey 2.42.9esr crashes here when using Google maps as a result of zooming in and moving the map around.
Regards
Pete

2.42.9esr Build identifier: 20170816231600
Works fine in all the maps I tried, zooming, moving, etc.

Using Dave's latest Seamonkey I do not have any problems with:
https://www.google.com/maps
https://www.google.com/maps
https://www.mapquest.com/

I believe it is built on later Firefox components than in those Firefox builds so it may be fixed in the next Firefox drop.

Setup & Installation / Re: Ghostscript error
« on: May 25, 2017, 04:08:51 am »
I have for years used PMPDF and GhostScript 9.04 (or earlier versions) and setting it up on various eCS system without any problems.
Now I just tried to make it work under ArcaOS, installing the same way as before, but get this error when trying to create a pdf:

As I recall, Ghostscript is automatically installed in ArcaOS, if you installed GS 9.04 and trying to use it, then the DLL from the newer GS is being found (I had the same problem in eCS sometime back when I had ended up installing GS in rpm/yum).

Hi

Another issue that I'm experiencing with this new version, is that if it is turned on (Enable user interface enhancements), the "Windows Themes" program will not load. If I turn eStyler off, "Windows Themes" will be working again.

Here it is the log.

Add THEMEMGR.EXE to the estyler "do not apply enhancements" and apply.  Not sure of why it now conflicts but I have both it and smarwin.exe in there.

Comments, Suggestions & Questions / Re: Renew use of OS/2

I know the Warp v4 CD had them, I am not sure about V3 but there is a good chance, the V4 disks had the floppy images on the CD so that they could be recreated from it.  I am not sure if the images are directly compatible with the VirtualBox floppy, of if the VB floppy can only be connected to a real drive (IOW, I do not know if the floppy can use an image the way the CD can use an ISO and if it can if the image formats are the same).

I am also using Panorama and occasionally have spontaneous system reboots. I wonder if that could be the same problem. Is that driver available anywhere ?
Do the system reboots occur when launching ae.exe or newview.exe?  I often experience a reboot or a system hang when launching one of these two apps.

Once I found where the existing DLLs were, I am now able to use the new stylerlite.  It is not compatible with Styler/2.

sure, this is a replacement for eStylerLite not for SmartWin.

Yuri
Yes, the fact that it is not a replacement for SmartWin is why I end up using both... if SmartWin had been updated then I would just have been using it and not both.  I had never had a problem with running both in the past but now I do have to add smartwin.exe to the estyler exception list.

OK, I found changed the font to Bold and it does not crash Smartwin, changed it back to normal font and still no crash so not sure why it was crashing before.
