usb wifi in arca50????
« on: October 17, 2017, 06:16:09 pm »
I was trying to run a usb-wifi TL-WN823N.
I used the usbecd23.zip to link the usb.
Then I followed the instructions on this website.
http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Testing_an_UnSupported_Network_Driver_with_GenMAC
The system is Arca 50 updated.
And I get to the green message:
NO VALID HARDWARE-INFO IN PROTOCOL.INI FOR (WRND322 $)
Attached the lantran.log
Protocol.ini
and the w2357x0109.inf (which you believe to test)
Any help to continue ??

Hi Roberto.

As far as I remember the GenMAC and GenMU only worked (when it works) for PCI and mini-PCI cards. I don't think that documentation will work for USB Wifi network adapters like your TP-Link TL-WN823N.

To be honest I don't remember if there is an Wireless USB network adapter that works under OS/2-ArcaOS.  If someone has more information please reply.

USBECD only makes it possible to use a program to read/write to a USB device. It probably would drive the device, IF you wrote a program to read/write all of the proper things. Chances are, that you would never figure out what it needs, to make it work.

The instructions there, are to use an unsupported driver with GENMAC. GENMAC is the same level driver as USBECD, and only one of them can drive an individual device. GENMAC knows nothing about USB, it only does PCI(e).

Probably not. You would be far better off to use an external ethernet connected WiFi adapter. There are a few of them available. I use an older D-Link 506L, It works pretty well, and it can be useful for other things.

Doug - Thanks for your comments. I only have to change the card from the wifi to the laptop for another compatible.
Martin- pci only works when it works !! :)
