2011.11.30, 20:41:41
FWIW! FrostWire (Peer to Peer File sharing) now works with Java6 using eCS. Download the .jar from the Frostwire site (frostwire-5.2.9.noarch).

Hardware / 1 tb Hard Drive problem
2011.10.21, 20:34:13
Ineed to move many files larger than 2gb from a 1/2 tb drive to a 1 tb drive to make more available space on the smaller hard drive. I've tried copying using the different available file managers and they all "crap out" when approaching 2 gb. Is there hopefully a way of doing this that I don't know about? The 1 tb hard drive is partitioned with 3, 200gb fat 32 partitions.
thanks for any help with this problem

How can I get higher resolutions when using LCD Flat panel monitors with WSEB, so far the best I can do is good old 640x480 16color! I've tried eCS's newest SNAP (snap491) and it hangs the mouse on the final step before the final re-boot. I've tried porting both panorama & Snap from eCS 2.1 but that too ends up in disaster! The old CRT moniters work without problems.
Has anyone had any luck getting this to work?
  Thanks for any ideas.

Applications / Mplayer/Smplayer problem
2011.06.28, 21:37:47
Smplayer (mplayer actually) only works with "Snap" and with no sound. Running it with "Panorama" (the preferred method) fails with "Unable to open SDDHELP$ helper device driver" and other options have no sound. I've read a couple of posts suggesting different additions to the mplayer config file I/E vo=kva:dive and, or ao=kai:dart, neither which seem to have any effect.
Does anyone know a working solution for both sound & video under Panorama?

Thanks in advance for any ideas

Does anyone know how to make the Atheros 168c:1014 wireless NIC work on a T43? Genmac see's the adapter but then says it is "unsupported"! The internal Broadcom NIC (Cable) works O.K.
Using eCS 2.1
Is there possibly a different driver that will work in this Laptop?

Thanks for any ideas

Applications / WSEB Help
2011.04.13, 20:23:33
Is there anywhere a forum devoted specifically to WSEB? If not, how about a site with info on problems with WSEB?

Thanks for any suggestions

I need to password protect a directory on my web site. I've tried several programs that are available on Free JavaScripts and can't make any of them work.
I'm starting to "Smell a Rat"! Either I'm dumber than I give myself credit for being or possibly my My web site host "Go Daddy" prevents using javascript!
Does anybody have a solution that even I can make work?

Thanks for any ideas.

Making a long story short, I screwed up WSEB moving it from Drive C: to Drive D:!  I now have it working pretty well, it boots fine and starts the server etc. Problem is I have no objects in any of the desktop folders, all the correct folders and sub-folders are created correctly (I used Makeini to accomplish this) but the folders themselves have none of the objects in them, they are all blank. Is there any way of re-creating these objects without re-installing? Could it possibly be accomplished by booting to the recovery menu and doing a F2 (boot to command line)?

thanks for any ideas

Is Flash 10 a "Dead Issue" or is there still hope to eventually see the "imminent" release?

Hardware / Samsung CLP-310 - need driver!
2010.06.27, 21:23:12
I just purchased another Printer that sadly won't work with eCS/OS2. Checking the list of printers that work the Samsung CLP-300 was listed by Paul as working great -- so, like a Dumb Ass I assumed the Samsung CLP-310 would naturally work also! --- wrong! It works great with Windoz and Samsung provides an excellent package of Drivers & monitoring software for Linux.
It now appears that the only way this printer will work with eCS/OS2 is with the Foomatic Drivers package which is part of CUPs but is not yet ported to eCS/OS2. Additionally it also needs the foo2qpdl printer driver. This printer is also not supported by SPLIX . GDI driver also dosn't work.
Sooooo ----- am I totally screwed once more or has someone out there got a way of making this printer work?

After successful install eCS brings up WPS with a window labeled "eComCenter Configuration" which works fine when you go through its install process for it, but then on every following re-boot the same window keeps coming back up and has to be manually closed. I've tried removing it from the start-up folder and that has no effect. Anybody know how I can completely eliminate this feature? I prefer using  "ecenter" but would be satisfied if I could just get rid of that eComCenter configuration permanently.

I've got gcc installed in /usr/local44/bin. Typing gccenv.cmd /usr/local44/bin WLINK gives the following error:
Error: cannot find gcc.exe in usr\local44\bin\usr
I've tried different combinations for gccenv.cmd and can't come up with anything that sets the Linker correctly.
Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

I downloaded a couple of files from the Beta Zone and then saw "calender.xpi" and decided to download it. When I clicked on it a Seamonkey window came up labelled Software Installation and said: A web site is requesting permission to install fileviewer.php from ecomstation site and a warning that malicious software can screw up my computer! Had I been paying attention to what I as doing I would have aborted the install, but I went ahead and clicked install. It then downloaded fileviewer.php and said the Mozilla Calendar had been successfully installed and to restart my application to continue. -- click O.K.!
Now when I, for example, bring up Seamonkey and go to "OS2 World collaborative community" the site comes up O.K. but when I select anything on the os2 & eCs Forum it blows off Seamonkey and returns me to the WPS.
Is there a known way to make this work or better yet uninstall it?
  Thanks for any ideas!

Back in the days of a world with only OS2 (Before eCS) when you installed IBM's boot manager you had the option of installing it either at the front of the partition or at the end of the partition. My question is: Do we still have that option with eCS? The reason I ask being, I have need of eliminating the boot manager at the begining of a partition on one of my client boxes and moving it to the end of the same partition. Is this possible, and if so How?  An explanation of why I have to do this is rather embarassing, so please dont't ask! --- trust me , "I need to do this!"

Applications / QT4 Enviorment problem?
2010.02.27, 19:32:23
I'm using QT4 in Linux with no problems but can't seem to get around a problem I have trying to use it in eCS. Here is a simple example of the problem using one of the QT4 "examples" I/E addressbook!
I open a QT4 command prompt screen, go to N:\ecs\SYSTEM\QT4\examples\tutorials\addressbook\part1. Then do "qmake", which seems to do its thing correctly, then "make" which craps out with the following message:

g++: g++  error executing N:/usr/i386-pc-os2-emx/bin/as.exe: no such file or directory
make: *** [addressbook.obj] error1

I do have "as.exe" in my N:/usr/i386-pc-os2-emx/bin directory!  When I go to N:/usr/i386-pc-os2-emx/bin and run as.exe I get: SYS1804 The system cannot find the file BFD2E ------ (which IS in N:/usr/lib!)

Looks to me like one of two things! 1: my QT4 enviorment is screwed up, or 2: I'm screwed up!

Thanks for any ideas!    klipp

I trashed my desktop installing and trying to run QT4 apps. Is there any suggestions as to how I might recover the desktop? The machine boots correctly but when it comes time to bring up the desktop it hangs on the grey screen with an active mouse pointer. The only thing that works is Ctrl-Esc which brings up a blank window list window. I'm thinking probably one way of possibly recovering is to re-install eCs Silver with the migration option. Anyone got any ideas on other ways of salvaging the desktop or thoughts on whether re-installing & migrating might work. Really stupid of me, I did this on a production box!

Could some kind soul explain to me how to make this work! I'm using eCs 2.0 Silver with Snap and can only come up with Identical screens on each display. Changing configuration settings in SNAP (Multihead) changes nothing. Can't make it work on the latest versions of Mandriva (2009 &2010) either but works fine on Windoz.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Using VirtualBox OSE in Linux when installing eCs 2.0 it hangs when "Loading KBDBASE.SYS"!  Anybody have either a solution for this or a "work-around"?
